Meet Richard Taylor of Taylor Workshop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Taylor.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We started in 2011 as an architectural design firm, working primarily on residential and light commercial projects in Atlanta. Soon after, we picked up some work with some larger national brands which challenged us to evolve into more than just Architects. Today, we have become a multi-faceted design firm who helps businesses formalize conceptual ideas through digital graphics, AR/VR, graphic design, and prototyping!

We help our clients solve problems, validate or fail ideas faster and more economically, and we do this by leading and supporting them through a design process.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We are very conservative with our growth. Finding talent is the first challenge, but finding talent that fits our culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and hustle is much tougher.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Taylor Workshop – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a gang of architects, industrial designer, graphic designer, and skilled fabricators who communicate and convey concept and design that connects with our client.

We have a vast array of tools in our resource which include AR/VR, high res rendering and animation, mock-ups and prototypes, as well as full scale architectural simulations. The most unique service that we provide is taking a client through a design process, and then building the design using foamcore boards, and cheap plywood. With this we can walk a client through their space, push and pull things with our hand until it feels just right! It’s a very compelling experience.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our current ambitions are to make ourselves more available to new customers, develop and support innovation programs within new organizations, and expand our reach while continuing to exceed expectations with our current amazing clients. We have recently moved from our office in Buckhead into a raw industrial space which allows better connectivity between the thinking, and the making, improving our companies hand-eye coordination! As a small and nimble outfit, we can respond quickly and with great agility. Curiosity and learning is a big part of our culture, so no new venture is out of the question.
