Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricky Bland.
Ricky, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a retired Naval Officer with 28 years of honorable and faithful service, I am a living example of pulling oneself up by their own bootstraps. Although the start of my military career was serving as enlisted personnel, it provided insight and the network needed to fulfill my ultimate purpose of becoming a Motivational and Inspirational speaker into the lives of others. Having achieved the rank as Chief Warrant Officer 4, I have earned the respect of senior and junior personnel that help me to discover my God-given role of uplifting shattered lives and instilling emotional encouragement.
During my career, I have been selected to lead many high-profile assignments surpassing other senior officers who would have normally filled those strategic roles. Those assignments allowed me the opportunity to manage multi-million-dollar functions, lead military and civilian personnel, and oversee 6k billets and resources. What makes my story plausible, my vast military experience paved the way towards my future endeavor as a motivational and inspirational speaker. The military platform and teaching credentials at an urban High School in Worcester, MA, afforded me a clear vision of what is needed for teenagers ranging from 9th to 12th grade. What I bring to the table is active listening, communication and ethics skills. Most importantly, I bring a full understanding of emotional intelligence coupled with firm leadership traits that are adapted depending on the situation.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth, but it has become a learning curve in observing the communication and needs of teenagers and people in general. With much success and admiration from my students, I believe my authentic caring leadership and the ability to execute emotional intelligence will set a positive tone where teenagers will feel beholden to exceled.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Candidly, my outstanding military career speaks of high praise and achievement. Nevertheless, I would like to speak about my position and responsibility as the Senior Naval Science Instructor at North High School in Worcester, MA. I am most proud of the training and leading our young men and women to be good citizens. These teenagers, are the bedrock for the upcoming generation and being able to shape those impressionable minds with core values of honor, courage and commitment are crucial to infusing our society with adults who are capable of competing in the 21st century. I am extremely proud of the fact; my actions have played a considerable role in turning life around for some teenagers that were headed toward a pipeline of unfilled potential. Some of those teenagers — are Naval Officers, attending four years universities, in trade schools, business owners and working within the community.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Giving back to society and living my life with purpose. When I was growing up, I had a village of church members, God-fathers, pastors who were supportive in keeping me on the right track. Their guidance and tough love gave me drive and a sense of direction, this was most needed because I lost my mother at the age of 16 years old. So, giving back and living an authentic life of community service is what matters most to me consider it a civic virtue of caring.
