Today, we’d like to introduce you to Ricky Clark. Ricky was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented LaTasha Hyman.
Hi Ricky, we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a passion for creating excellent meals. As a youngster, I can recall spending time with my great uncle as he and the older men would gather around the barbeque pit and create a feast for the family- immediate and extended. There were so many great memories of this time, the laughter, the stories and the teachable moments that came from the time around the pit. So much love was shared for one another and the food. Even now, I always reference this by saying, I’m cooking with love.
Please tell us more about your brand, Legends Bar B Que
My business started off as a hobby. Family and friends would always compliment me on my homemade barbeque sauce. I would get orders for people to make the sauce for their personal use as well as when they were having events. People would say, “you need to sell this”, “this needs to be on the store shelf”. I began looking into how I can use my talent to start a business. I started off as a concession vendor selling barbeque. I did that for a few years, but I always wanted to expand my business to include catering and off-site sales. I was comfortable with having a single location and patrons coming to me but venturing into the catering business was a bit of a challenge and I needed help getting that off the ground. I was fortunate enough to network with Hey Best Friend Consulting and got the skills and connections necessary to take me into this desired space. This has been one of the greatest benefits to my business, aside from quality food, my partnership with the professionals Hey Best Friend Consulting. The hands-on, real-world experience they have in launching mobile businesses has been a game changer for Legend’s BBQ.
So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by LaTasha Hyman and Hey Best Friend Consulting LLC and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Hey Best Friend Consulting LLC.
I would highly recommend Hey Best Friend led by LaTasha Hyman to anyone who is interested launching or taking their business to the next level. She was always on point with her recommendations. I appreciate the partnership because she would always tell me what I needed to know and not what I wanted to hear. In business, you need someone who is willing to take a look at your plan from an objective lens and offer suggestions based on industry knowledge. Within 4 months of working with LaTasha, I began to get large catering orders from major corporations on a consistent basis. These companies would not have known me otherwise. She held true to her commitment to help arm me with the knowledge to move beyond a mere dream to a fully functional catering business. I have to admit, it required a commitment from me as well. She makes it clear that it is not her doing it all but as a business owner, I have to be willing to invest in myself also. It paid off.
