Today we’d like to introduce you to RJ McCarley.
Hi RJ, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
TechChup started in my garage with a few friends. We were all passionate about educating people on technology and wanted to help improve experiences associated with technology. After some brainstorming, gathering advice from everywhere and putting together a thorough business plan I decided to form TechChup. Since then we’ve grown our reach across the United States and we’ve just expanded into southeast Asia.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! It’s one thing to get everything together to actually start a business, but it’s a whole other process in actually running the business. The first challenge that comes to mind was standing out amongst the crowd of other IT consulting firms. Finding a way to market ourselves as the better company is something we still constantly have to work on. The market never stops growing and if you settle down, your competitors will beat you every chance you get.
Another big struggle we faced was keeping up with the growing trends of cyber attacks. Attackers are getting smarter and their methods are ever-evolving. I’m grateful to have a team with me that understands that we are in a field that requires us to never stop learning.
However, the biggest struggle of them all lay within. At first, I thought I had to figure out everything on my own, this eventually led to a lot of problems piling up faster than I could develop solutions. As TechChup grew, I learned very quickly that I have a team for a reason. At TechChup we don’t really operate on a hierarchy system in terms of working out problems. We find it best to get everyone involved in trying to find a solution to whatever problem might be presented.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
TechChup is a managed IT provider with a focus in cybersecurity. Think of us as an outsourced IT department for small to mid-sized businesses. We handle all instances from consulting and building an IT infrastructure all the way to monitoring and protecting the digital assets of a business.
I think what sets us apart from the others is the diversity of TechChup. Our staff brings knowledge from all over the world and I believe this better equips us to tackle a variety of technological problems.
What matters most to you? Why?
Education without it we have a society that is misinformed and not properly prepared for what could occur.
