Meet Robert Pope of The Pope Center of Atlanta in Southwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Pope.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started five years ago in the month of October, as I was preparing to celebrate my birthday. I wanted to be able to give rather than receive. I thought what better way than to give back to my community. Noticing many homeless citizens here in Atlanta, the weather was changing and I knew they did not have adequate protection from the harsh elements. So, I started a small coat drive and petition my co-workers and fellow church members to donate as they see fit. Little did I know, we would receive more than 300 coats at the time. It was a great feeling of giving back and blessing others in their time of need. It was ministry up close!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, it has been a very smooth road. I’ve had assistance from Cobb County School Board, other local churches have also stepped in to donate as well.

Please tell us about The Pope Center of Atlanta.
The Pope Center serves as an Advocacy Center for Homeless Citizens, we offer assistance as needed. We house those who are at a transitional stage from homeless to being self-supporting of themselves. We reach out to other agencies that can assist as needed for individuals who lack the communication component in seeking help. Our goal is to prayerfully open a Drug Rehab Center here in Atlanta in the coming years.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would simply be remembering the unconditional love I received from my parents.
