Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Robbins.
Robyn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It started when I was writing my memoir. During this time, I began to feel boxed in the work I was doing at the time with Heart Of A D.I.V.A. Ministries. I knew there was more to me and more for me to do. I had more to say. That’s when I recognized that writing would definitely be apart of my actual career and not just a therapeutic outlet. I had already published four books prior to the memoir however during that time of writing the memoir, I realized this would be one of the ways I impacted the lives of others. Glimpses of speaking and empowering others fueled me greatly on the days I wanted to give up. You see, I struggled greatly writing this particular book because I am a private person and had only shared my story with those I felt comfortable with. I kept thinking that I would be rejected by the church and the ministry I had been leading at the time. Moments of shame and fear would grip me and the thoughts of who will buy this book? How will my family respond?, we had finally got to a reconciled place, I often thought. The one thing that I knew for sure was that I was supposed to write it and share the raw uncut truth. Eventually, the time came and the memoir was finished. I decided that it was time to come out of the box and really step fully into my purpose. I knew I was going to empower women through books, speaking, and teaching.
However, in 2014, coaching was pressed upon my heart. I looked it up to see what it was all about. I remember thinking to myself, this is so me, chuckling as I continued to read. At the time, I couldn’t afford the Life Coach certification. Boy, it’s funny how things have a way of working out and coming full circle. I had stopped thinking about it because the programs were just too expensive at that time for me. A couple of years later, the perfect coaching program seemed to fall in my lap and I graduated the same month, we released the memoir entitled “Diaries of An Ex-Adult Entertainer: My Road to Redemption” and launched the new business Robyn Robbins Enterprises LLC. in April 2016. This is where my new beginning started. I was still working my job as a CNA but I remained consistent and dedicated to what I knew I was meant to do.
At first, I was doing trauma coaching for women who wanted to transform their traumas or negative experiences into something powerful. You could hear the crickets in my business because there wasn’t much happening. I learned early on that family and so-called friends support is very limited. Instead of getting caught up in that and what seemed to be a lack of clients and opportunities, I decided to take what I had learned from running businesses prior to this one and make my own opportunities. I reflected often to see where I was missing it, I knew something wasn’t clicking, I surveyed people that seemed to be my target audience and it became apparent to me that my message was all wrong! My heart was in the right place, my services and programs were on point but the positioning of my messaging, the vantage point of my messaging was off. Plus, I was ignoring what my audience wanted most out of fear which was to share their stories. Although this was one of my programs I didn’t promote it. I invested in a business mentor and a business coach and we revamped and rebranded my business.
After that, my business seemed to take off. I earned “The Midwife” in which our clients affectionately refer to me as. We became full-time entrepreneurs and we went from an apartment to a house but most importantly, I get to do what I love every day. In 2018, we went international, because of this we had to revamp again in order to properly expand. We launched our new site in November 2018. I believe everything happens the way it’s supposed to and that every journey is unique. It was on my heart all year to officially launch my personal brand which is what I initially set out to do but I was having so much fun helping others give birth to their books and brands that it kept getting pushed behind. We will be launching my new site by the end of December 2018. This brand will serve as a personal empowerment development boutique to women who want to Give Birth 2 their purpose so they can live out their unique destiny.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. Trying hard not to give up. When you are consistent, disciplined, sacrificing and investing in the thing you believe and it doesn’t seem to be paying off it can be disheartening. There were so many times, I wanted to give up but something deep down just wouldn’t let me. This entrepreneur journey is definitely a faith walk. It’s also important to know when its time to invest and bring in help. Had I done so, business could have taken off sooner but I’m grateful and have definitely learned that lesson. As far as sharing my story, I struggled deeply and was consumed by the opinions of others. I have learned to simply “just be.” I am who I am, I’ve done what I’ve done and it ALL has contributed to who I’m becoming today. I choose to be free and to live this life that I have been given.
