Meet Rock Floyd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rock Floyd.

Rock, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Las Vegas, NV. My mom and dad were in a touring cover band together, and there was always music in the house growing up. When I was 6, we moved to the Chattanooga area, and my mother gave me a guitar. I was always begging my mom to let me on stage with her, but I didnt know any songs! So eventually, I asked my uncle to give me a few lessons and learned some of the basics of gospel music, and in a few months, I was traveling around the Southeast with my whole family from Church to Church playing guitar behind my head!

Cut to now, still playing guitar every day. But these days I play any instrument I can find and make an instrumental with it. I spend at least 50 percent of my life finding new sounds and recording them. Really, what gets me excited these days is the combination of new and old. Using analog synths and tape machines to create new and interesting sounds to make hot ass beats. I may have a few more responsibilities 20 years later, like my two children, balancing relationships with my friends, family, and the artists that I contribute to, but that never stops my never ending search for the perfect melody or drum pattern.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Any of the bumps that were on the road were there for a reason. Or I probably put them there!

Please tell us about your work.
As a producer, I apply various artistic techniques that I have studied over the years. I love to combine eras, styles, and mediums of sound with live instruments, synthesizers, and sampling. I do multiple things, but I have made my “respect,” mostly, contributing to another more established producer/artist work’s in the music industry with my guitars. Still, I’ve never invested in only one stock. I’m building my own company off of my portfolio of solo production works with a few close friends and personal favorite people to listen to.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Whenever Michael Vick was on Madden..? That time period was crazy. Do you know? In music/entertainment with baggy clothes and nasty colors! I got some Nike Shox that year I was super excited about the black and red ones from NBA Live 04. I always felt like I had to keep up with the new shoe trends as a kid.
