Today we’d like to introduce you to Rolando Nava
Rolando, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
How I came to be a Stand Up Guy all started with a good friend of mine from Church Mr. Billy Lloyd. He actually worked for Atlanta Peach Movers at the time, and he met our sales rep, Ryan Keane.
They were passing referrals back to one another, and my friend asked Ryan if they were hiring because he knew a great guy who would be a great fit for Stand Up Guys. Ryan’s response was and I quote “yeah we can put him on if he wants to drive to Marietta every day from Lawrenceville”
As soon as Billy told me of the opportunity pending, I jumped on it with gratitude and told him I would not let him down. So, I started back in February 2017 as a hauler for the Marietta Branch. Because of my commute, I was determined to beat the traffic, so I woke up extra early and was always the first man at the office with plenty of time. I took advantage of catching up on my Bible Study while I was waiting for the rest of the crew to arrive. And you know because of my determination they actually used me as an example. They would say to the crew member that was tardy “Rolando lives all the way in Lawrenceville and he’s the first one here you live 15 minutes away why are you late?”
This went on for about two years and one day on the way home I got in a really bad accident on the highway where I was hospitalized. The way my mentality was from previous jobs. I figured that I would be fired for a no call no show and plus I wasn’t physically able to work so I just healed and got another job after four months of recovery.
Building my strength back up going back to what I know best which is construction. I worked with a cousin of mine for a little while then I went on to Warehouse work. One afternoon when I was on break, Mr. Carson Gibson gave me a call and asked me if I would like to be a part of opening the ATL East Branch located in Lawrenceville. I was so shocked and amazed, and I said “absolutely, I thought you were blowing smoke up my ass when you said you were going to open a branch in Lawrenceville Hahahaha” I told him I would put in my two week’s notice and be ready to get back at it.
When we opened ATL East it was just two guys my main man Will Scott & I we’re ready to get this branch up and running. Will was not only my mentor and trainer, but he was also my friend, and I couldn’t have done it without him. A month past and I got bumped up to a Lead Position, so now I would be quoting jobs, calling customers and performing our service for the jobs at hand. I got so good at it. It grabbed the attention of the CEO Casey Walsh, and he needed to know who this Rolando was. Surprise surprise got promoted to branch manager. After he got to meet me and saw all the reviews I have obtained since I’ve been there, he thought it would be a great idea to make me an Event Coordinator.
I took on the roll with pride and see where it would take me. This is where I got the majority of my traveling in and got to meet different managers from different branches. I would be the face of the company for all the events in their cities. Anywhere from Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia. I would’ve gone to Texas, but I don’t fly hahahaha. This new position really gave me the opportunity to bring in some of the customers and let everybody know why they should utilize our services.
Had that position for a couple of years and in 2024 I got promoted once again to Business Development Manager. Casey says I was born to Network, and he wanted me in front of as many people as possible. Don’t get me wrong. They still utilize me on the trucks so I can minimize labor, but I love rolling up my sleeves and showing the guys that I would not make them do anything I wouldn’t do. So here we are now in 2025 still going strong and all thanks be to God for opening doors I couldn’t. “I Love You Father God”
Thank y’all for letting me tell my story and remember when you have junk give me a call. Rolando with Stand Up Guys where your clutter is our bread and butter
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Thinking back there has been many challenges, but with all good challenges, come a lesson. I had a big job for a client we were trying to win, and this was literally a mini landfill. On the surface, it was a lot of bulky items and I can see some tires so I gave a large quote of $68,000 the biggest quote ever in Stand Up Guy history.
Looks like I underestimated the job and had to ask for $10,000 more. After taking that first layer off, that’s when it really got tough. There was layers of shingles, tile, more Tires. This was a job that kept on giving. Luckily the client understood and paid a renegotiated price. so 2 1/2 months later we finally got the job completed, but yet we still lost money. This was definitely a steppingstone and a learning experience for a job of this magnitude. I am thankful for the opportunity to tackle a job of this size, and we built a customer who utilizes us nationwide.
Turnover rate for Employees you can imagine our common and a lot of businesses. Stand Up Guys junk removal is no different. I had to train a lot of young men/women to be the Stand Up Guys/Gals. We intended them to be. We lost many, but tried to realize the reasoning why we had to continue training new employees.
Because of the amount that we were encountering, lead us down a path where we needed to thrive in the hiring and training process. We started training our employees for a 90 day Period and at the end of their 90 days they received a book titled The Dichotomy of Leadership where they had to read and apply what they learned to their position. We wanted to make sure that The Employees that we were hiring looked at this job as a career, knowing that they could have a future with us. We did not want them to think they were just working for a junk removal company because we want to branch out and open up different locations.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
So in regard to what I do I literally do it all. From working on the truck regardless of whether it’s a demolition job or an easy dumpster corral pick up I’m there. I’m part of different organizations like NAPO, BNI, Network in Action and I also visit multiple business association meetings where I can meet other like-minded individuals and past referrals to each other. Building strong relationships because people wanna do business with people they trust. So in that aspect, I do a lot of networking.
I specialize in grabbing the attention of clients and consumers. Some people say, I kill them with my charm. I also specialize in my construction skills so when we have to tear down a shed, it’s as easy as 123 (I love physical work)
I’m known for many things, but I would have to say my reviews. When I’m in front of a customer, they get to see my professionalism and if I do a great job, they always give me a review. But I’m also known for my unique approach to situations and my revenue
I am most proud of being a part of this company and tackling any job that comes my way
And when you meet me, what sets me apart from others, I am one of a kind. Authentic, loving, smart & funny. Not to mention, handsome😁
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Are 5 to 10 year goals are definitely high. We want to increase our revenue for every branch and have a team that really stands by the name of Stand Up Guys. I would love to partner up with a nonprofit organization and work side-by-side with them. Stand Up Guys takes pride and giving back to the community so whatever is salvageable we definitely take the liberty and taking it to a donation center.
Our meetings that we hold every morning, we really want to see more participation from The Employees. Setting their goals, staying alert and striving to be the best. This is where their hard work and dedication really gets highlighted.
Coming up with ideas for competitions within the company and awarding the best branch.
I would like to find more productive ways to advertise our business throughout the state and really focus on customer service because we are here for them and we really want them to understand this and know that we will work with them.
Currently, we are located in Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina and Texas and we would love to add 5 to 7 other states within that 5 to 10 years.
