Meet Rome Williams of Rome’s Unique Styles in Douglasville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rome Williams.

Rome, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started doing hair at the age of 12. My mother was still putting ponytails all over my head and I felt like I was too big to be wearing all of them ponytails so I told her that I didn’t want to wear them anymore and her words was if you think you grown then do your hair on your own. I asked her to show me how to do cornrows in my hair and she showed me three times and from there, I took off. I remember my senior project being about me owning my own salon one day and believe it or not my teacher told me that hairstylist didn’t make any money and he failed me and told me I needed to redo my project. I still stuck at it and made my dreams come true. I worked my behind off to get to where I’m at. I put myself through school to become a master cosmetologist. I put my blood sweat and tears into my business/ brand. As many times I wanted to give up, I had to show my five children that I’m not a quitter. I put God first and learned how conquer everything that’s thrown my way.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been an easy road. Because you got to deal with so many people thats in competition with each other. Some people want me to lower my prices because they think that my prices are too high. My prices are my prices and this is my career this is how I provide for me and my five children. The negative vibes and rudeness from customers make you wanna step out of character sometimes but you gotta remain humble and stay focused so you want make a bad name for yourself or hurt your brand.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I’m a master cosmetologist but I mainly specialize in braiding hair. I’m known for braiding and my hair care products. I’m proud of my brand. Owning my own business changed who I am . I use to be wild and in the streets, fighting and stuff. I stopped using my fist to hurt people and started using my hands to help people. I started using my brain and started thinking clearer. My brand is who I am and I am Rome Williams. I’m dedicated to my business. It’s not just about money for me, I deal with a lot of clients that have Alopecia and when I’m done with them it be the reaction I get, some of their reactions even make me want to cry. My hard work and talent speak for itself. I’m a unique individual; it’s all about my clients not the money. My brand is everything and I will continue to rise to the top.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
4 years ago when I dropped my product line. My hometown and other surrounding counties showed major love when I dropped my product line. I’m proud of my hair care products because people actually love them. I get so much positive feedback and reviews. I started making my products because I tried everything on my Lil girl hair and it wouldn’t grow so I made a emollient (grease) called Rome’s hair blossom grease for my daughter and I made a growth oil called Rome’s growth oil for myself because I had cut my hair and wanted it to grow back. One day I posted our results on Facebook and showed how fast our hair grew and that’s when my product line took off.
