Meet Romero Cavalcanti of Alliance Jiu Jitsu in Dunwoody

Today we’d like to introduce you to Romero Cavalcanti.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am known as Jacare, which means alligator in Portuguese. I was born in Brazil and grew up in Rio de Janeiro with the Gracie family. The Gracie’s pretty much perfected the modern system of Jiu-Jitsu, a martial art based on self defense and ground techniques that is practiced around the world! BJJ became famous after Rorion Gracie invented the UFC and his brother Royce Gracie made history beating much larger opponents from different martial arts background proving our style to be one of the most effective in a hand to hand combat.

After being very successful teaching in Brazil I decided to come to Atlanta to expand my organization Alliance and I opened my first school here in Atlanta in 1997 in Sandy Springs. After many years teaching here and being very successful with my team winning 11 times the most prestigious event of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the world the IBJJF World Championship held in Long Beach CA every year with over 4000 competitors from around the world.

I started to do Jiu-Jitsu when I was 12 years old and I grew up in the sport being one of the pioneers. I was a student of Rolls Gracie, who was considered by many the top fighter in his era and got my black belt in February of 1982 just a few months before he passed-away in a tragic hang gliding accident, I now hold the rank of red and white, or 8th degree black belt.

We have a top of the line facility in Dunwoody GA, with 9000 square feet of training space. It is considered one of the premiere schools to learn Jiu Jitsu in the world, we have around 400 students and convenient classes for everyone, man, women and children in a very positive environment to learn the gentle art.

Has it been a smooth road?
Well building strong organization requires a lot passion, dedication, and love for what you do. If you do what you love this will give you the drive to succeed, no matter what obstacles you face. That is what I did all my life, I didn’t come into this world to fail, but to excel, as well as helping and inspiring other people to do the same! You have to fight for your dreams and goals.

I am a dream seller and my vision is to help others with Jiu-Jitsu making them more balanced and optimist in life.
Jiu-Jitsu is not only a martial art but a way of life.

I’ve helped thousands of people around the world and my organization is spread around the globe with 200 affiliates in many countries teaching our style of Jiu Jitsu.

I have also helped many military and law enforcement organizations being a consultant for the Army rangers in Fort Benning Ga and other government entities.

To summarize if you are in Atlanta and want to experience Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense, feel free to schedule a visit to our school in Dunwoody, where we receive everyone with open arms.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We primarily teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/Self-defense, and our style composed of a methodology developed by me and my partners Fabio Gurgel and Alexandre Paiva. This practice makes it very easy for anyone to learn, because we have a unique step-by-step program that builds a regular person who has never trained in the sport, into a machine in just a few months, You don’t need to be an exceptional athlete in order to practice despite the fact that we have one of the top teams in the world being the only team to win the world championships 11 times.

We also have a convenient schedule of classes with top instructors teaching every day of the week in a very positive environment. Our school is located near the major freeways and we have showers and parking in a beautiful landscape in Dunwoody, one of the nicest neighborhoods in Atlanta.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes I absolutely agree that our city is a great place for business if you want to came and work hard because in my opinion if you don’t work hard enough you won’t be successful of course.

There are things that the city can improve such as having a better system of transportation like some cities in Europe would help people to get around easier.

Traffic is one of the main concerns for us especially during rush hours but all in all Atlanta still is one of the best places to live in the country.

Not only does he run an insanely successful BJJ academy that spans the globe, but he’s also an 8th degree black belt? What an absolute boss.
