Hi Rose & Dguerson, thanks for sharing your story with us. Maybe you can tell our readers some of your back story.
My husband and I are a very ambitious and driven pair. Unplug and Unwind is our second business together. In 2020, our other business halted during covid as everything was shut down without insight into where things would reopen.
We have always loved smelling goods for our home ranging from candles to room sprays. We especially loved to use them after cooking and cleaning. Those from the Caribbean can surely relate, after cooking the smell of the spices and the food would permeate the house and at times even after cleaning the smell still stuck around.
On one winter evening during COVID, my wife was reading and stumbled on an article about toxic candles and realized that the brands she was purchasing were on the list. She started researching the process of candle making and researching suppliers that supply natural ingredients. Next thing I knew, boxes started showing up in the house. She started cooking up some candles, and of course, I joined her one of those nights. She started teaching me how to make candles. It became another opportunity to date nights during COVID, especially since we couldn’t go anywhere. This sounds odd for a date night, but it was amazing. We started blending some scents and testing them out. We also later expanded into making rooms, prayers, and reed diffusers.
With every turn, we experienced a different sense of relaxation. It became a thing for us, a routine. Work hard during the day, light a candle afterward, and start to Unplug and Unwind. As ambitious as we are, it became equally important to unplug from and unwind to reset the clock for the next day. We felt that it was important to share this same message with the world through our non-toxic, paraben free products. Thus, Unplug & Unwind was born!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Unplug & Unwind is intentionally created to offer a sensory experience that exudes relaxation, bliss, happiness, calmness, and excitement. It is just rewarding! We take pride in knowing our products’ positive impact on our customers.
Our humble beginnings started in our kitchen; at times, we experienced several instances of frustration, especially when testing our products. We may have the perfect blend, but testing different wicks at different fragrance loads was a nightmare. But we stuck to our mission and never wavered. We overcame our challenges by taking notes during testing periods to help us remember what worked and what failed.
We want the world to know that Unplug & Unwind is a lifestyle! Our scented products are homemade with love that will permeate your home, nourish your soul, and recharge your mind!

Rose & Dguerson (DJ) were both born in Haiti and later migrated to the US seeking a better life and education. They have been married for eight years, have three beautiful children and Stella the dog.
As a corporate professional, Rose is a pharmaceutical/biotech professional, and Dj is an electrical engineer. We enjoy relaxing at home with our children. Whether it is a family movie night or games, they always have a candle lit to set the right mood. They also enjoy their quality time together with a glass of wine and a lavish aromatic candle to set the tone.
