Today we’d like to introduce you to Rose Staram.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Rose. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I graduated from Boston College in 01 and started my self employed life right away. I fell in love with the behind the scenes hustle and bustle during a political rally I attended. I knew this was what I wanted to be apart of. Through hard work, dedication and volunteerism, I worked my way up for over a decade in the grueling political system. Producing the most important events for some pretty cool people. My path has lead me to work for the most powerful heads of States including Barak and Michelle Obama, Joe Biden, Ayanna Presley and Hilary Clinton to name a few. Our business has now grown to a level where we employ staff and consultants to do what I once did on the ground.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being a woman and being black in America is no easy road. The doubters, the type-casters, and the system of racism that has affected people of color is very strong in the political world. It’s not only hard for people of color but add on that I’m a women and the road just got even harder. No one wants to trust you or give you the opportunity unless many folks vouch for you and then still you’re questioned.
People want to underpay your right away and value your work as less. I found myself fighting for promotions and opportunities that come easy for most. So I laugh when people say your so lucky; I’m a fighter, quitting isn’t an option for me.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the RoseMark Production LLC story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a certified women of color full-service event management firm headquartered in Boston, MA, with satellite offices in DC, CA and AR. When I worked for Michelle Obama in 2014, we went to Saint Jude’s hospital for an event. It was with children with cancer and that was my best event ever. It was special to me to share my boss with these kids! For that one hour she was with them, they forgot they weren’t in a hospital fighting for there lives!
