Meet Roshawnna Novellus of EnrichHER in Midtown Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roshawnna Novellus.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Roshawnna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Every time I can help a women-led business succeed, I believe that I’m fulfilling my purpose. I believe that providing capital for women-led businesses provides economic empowerment, inclusive economic growth, and overall gender equality. As the number of sustainable women-led businesses increases, society as a whole will benefit from inclusive job growth, as well as products and services that better reflect the input of women. Once women have a larger role in the economies of our communities, we will be able to build a society that is more reflective of our needs, desires, and aspirations.

Funding equity does not exist for women-led or Black-owned businesses. Even women-led ventures that obtain a lot of traction, win competitions, and/or successfully raise capital, still face more challenges than their male counterparts. Lack of access to financial assets continues to impede gender equality. This is why I am such an advocate for economic empowerment and inclusive economic growth. We are increasing the educational and financial resources, while cultivating a supportive community, for women-led businesses.

Since I founded the company in 2017, we’ve interacted with over 23,000 women-led and Black-owned companies in the United States, and helped 164 companies attract $13 million in loan and grant funding, and have over 1,000 members in our online community, EnrichHER Society.

The first loan we deployed was for a successful IT Firm founded by Barbra Jones. Although she had over 1 million dollars in revenue the only funding opportunities given to her were from predatory lenders. The first loan we deployed really spoke to the mission of EnrichHER. We were confident in LilliiRNB as a business and it was our first of many successful partnerships. We’re currently in the middle of funding the All Rise Factory, a cohort of seven pre-vetted women-led and Black-owned businesses. Has it been a smooth road?
COVID-19 has affected all operations for any business I can think of. And it has certainly shed light on the lack of equity for black women entrepreneurs. This time has reinforced the mission of EnrichHER! To get funding into the hand of overachieving underserved founders who need to scale their company. Although COVID has increased the amount of funding some businesses need, women in tech should continue to take advantage of the resources available. We are creating new ways to connect lenders and companies. Since the outbreak of COVID we have added new features to our platform, allowing our community to invest in women-led businesses. If we want to see change in the funding landscape, we have to be the solution.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
EnrichHER specializes in providing funding, training, and networking opportunities to women-led and Black-owned businesses. We are proud of the work we have done to increase income equality for such businesses. What sets us apart is our dedication to helping underfunded entrepreneurs win.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes. Atlanta is such a diverse city with many resources to help women and PoC. I have felt very welcomed and embraced by city’s Black Tech ecosystem.
