Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayria Daniel.
Jayria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am the owner of Blushing Berries Sweets Boutique. I have earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in communications and cinema production. I knew at a young age that I wanted to work for myself because I didn’t really like my first 9-5, which was at Kroger fresh fare. I like to work at my own pace and create things out of the ordinary. Once I graduated with my Master’s degree in 2016, I started an online clothing store that just didn’t work out. I actually started my sweets boutique to buy inventory for my other store. My aunt, who has a bakery in Detroit actually suggested that I start selling chocolate covered strawberries being that I have loves them since I was a kid. Needless to say. Blushing Berries Sweets Boutique started out as a hobby and ended up being my primary business. I have worked with Beyonce, Monica Brown, Cynthia Bailey, Tiny Harris, Big Tigger and more…
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not, I don’t think any entrepreneur has had a smooth road in business. I had no idea what I was getting myself into and doing everything myself is extremely tough sometimes. I make, market, package and deliver everything myself. I do not get much sleep but it is worth it.
What’s your outlook for the industry over the next 5-10 years?
I see the sweets industry being really big in the next 10 years. Candy apples and Chocolate covered strawberries specifically are just now becoming really popular. In most cases, they are replacing cakes at the party because they can be customized to fit any theme etc… I know for a fact that Blushing Berries Sweets Boutique will dominate within the next 5-10 years!
What would you say has been the biggest challenge for you over the course of your career?
My biggest challenge has been standing out in an industry that is becoming over saturated. Operating as a business and not as a hobby has been tough but it is also very rewarding!
What advice do you wish to give to those thinking about pursuing a path similar to yours?
Do your research! Research is the most important process when it comes to any field but especially when dealing with foods and flavors. You should also have a clear understanding of what you want to do in the industry. The sweets industry is very large and it is impossible for one person or company to do it all.
