Meet Hilton Alexander of RouteKing Training in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hilton Alexander.

Hilton, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been involved in sports either as a player, coach, or trainer for over 20 years. Growing up in Atlanta, GA. I starred as a two sport athlete at Southside High School (Maynard Jackson) and was fortunate enough to garner a full scholarship to play Wide Receiver and a sprinter for the football and track and field teams respectively at Morris Brown College. After graduating with an honors degree in BSW and receiving a number of academic and athletic accolades, I was able to play professional football for three years with the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints. I have always been known for my passion and dedication to the kids whose lives I touch daily.

As a well-known fixture in the youth sports community in Metro Atlanta, I decided to give back and started RouteKing Training LLC in January of 2014 and non-profit Atlanta Bulldogs Academy in January of 2017. The focus is speed and agility training with a specialty in wide receiver training for athletes ranging from ages five and up including High School, Collegiate, and professional athletes. I started with one kid and my program have grown tremendously training some of the top youth, middle/high school, collegiate and professional athletes in the country. My passion is driven by my own two children Kayla and Hilton “Deuce” Alexander II both who are top State and nationally ranked track and field and football athletes.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road on my winding road to success. I started out training outside at different Parks and high schools in metro Atlanta. I have experienced a number of obstacles such as canceled trainings due to weather, lack of equipment, and/or issues with the field. I have had doubters, competitors, and naysayers alike that tried to derail my business. What I lacked in resources I made up with pure drive and passion. What I have found is that adversity builds true character and made me who I am today. I remained steadfast and focused on my goals. My goal was to grow the business and eventually get inside at a facility. I am now training at one of the premier facilities in Atlanta The Loft Athletic Club.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
One of the main supporters early on for RouteKing Training LLC is Dwight Moore. He saw my gift to influence athletes and encouraged me to start training full time. He gave me the name RouteKing and also referred my first client. There are a number of youth coaches and friends that helped me in the beginning when my groups was getting too big for me to handle on my own. Without hesitation and often for free, they would help lead drills and keep things organized. Jason Lobdell the owner of The Loft Athletic club who discovered me on social media and reached out to me saying he respected my craft and wanted to bring my training to his gym and the rest is history. My mentor Oscar Dillard that introduced me to countless number of NFL players to work their youth camp. My business partner Marlon Stabler who has been my biggest advocate and continues to give me huge opportunities to work with his NFL clients. My family has always been my biggest supporters and cheerleaders to this day always advocating for me and assisting me in anyway possible. I can’t thank them enough. I may have missed someone but trust me I have a special place in my heart for you and I am forever grateful.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
I was recently recognized by the National Black Caucus and the Georgia House of Representatives for all of the work I do in the community with the kids. I received the prestigious “Soldier Of Justice” Award at the GA. World Congress Center. The award, presented in front of hundreds, is given an annually to community leaders who stand on the vanguard in developing remedies for growing societal and economic problems within our communities.
