Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Henning.
Ryan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
If I said I came from nothing growing up, I’d be lying. I came from a very supportive household. Believe me, there are people out here with way harsher beginnings than me, but I have always been a person who believed you are in control of what you put in, even if there are no guarantees of what you get in return. My pivot points started as I grew mentally. At points, I had no direction which caused complacency. I stayed at the same job for years, stayed in the same situations for years, and it wasn’t until I had enough of complacency that my life started to change. Once I started to educate myself, I realized what direction I needed to go to have more for my children and I.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, the road hasn’t been smooth, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. My credit was trashed by my own hands as soon as I turned 18 because I wasn’t educated. Nobody around me used credit and nobody around me was an entrepreneur. There were plenty of instances later in life where I had to make that last ten dollars stretch for weeks. I remember finally getting a job making $20+ an hour with benefits and still struggling to pay my bills, so enjoying life to the fullest was certainly out of reach. The money was coming in, but I had no financial literacy to keep all of it from flying out. You may have people to turn to but that’s when pride sets in so you choose to keep it to yourself. We were all afraid of the unknown and having to reprogram bad habits and bad information is not a smooth road, but it is a necessary one.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Surround yourself with goal-minded people. Not everyone will see the vision until they start to see the construction and that is okay. Do not be afraid to be around people who are in a higher position than you, just make sure to soak in as much as possible and not be too prideful. With the way social media is set up, you can reach out to anybody via DM. Get used to asking questions when it’s something that helps your cause. What’s worked for me is showing action. Sometimes it’s better to come with some proof that you are serious rather than a conversation about what you possibly could do.
