Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Housley.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2007, my youngest brother was deployed to Iraq with the 25th ID. As soon as he arrived in country, he realized some of his unit members were not receiving support from back home. He asked me to send extra items in his care packages. One box became two boxes, then ten boxes and so forth. Eventually it was too much for us to keep up with so I developed a simple website to support their unit. They could register online and we’d connect them with someone back home who would support them during their deployment. We launched the website on Memorial Day 2008 and we’ve sent over 100,000 HeroBoxes since then. HeroBox.org is first and only platform that connects anyone in the country to a deployed service member instantly online.
Has it been a smooth road?
I did not have a non-profit background when we launched HeroBox so it has been a constant battle. One that we keep winning though. Passion and persistence is key in overcoming challenges. We are passionate about our mission and persistent in our efforts.

Atlanta has a massive veteran support community. People/Orgs like The Home Depot put veterans first in their giving missions.
