Today we’d like to introduce you to S. LaKeshia Few.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey into the world of philanthropy began as a child. My parents instilled the core values of volunteerism, helping others that were less fortunate, practicing agape love and Christian stewardship. These values are the foundation that I have constructed my current life upon. During my undergraduate years at UNC, I became the first Director of Volunteer Services. This position led me to the discovery point that helping others was my true calling. After moving into the corporate sector, I longed for something more.
My “something more” became membership in the civic organization, The Citizens of Georgia Power. Through my membership, I sharpened my skill set and established solid relationships with other civic organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Boys and Girls Club of Greater Atlanta and The Carter Center. After transitioning into a position with MBUSA, I became more active in the philanthropic arena. My years of nurturing my professional relationships became a springboard for me obtaining leadership roles and board memberships in other Civic organizations which eventually led Me to being tapped for the Executive Director position for a non profit organization founded by Grammy award winning Super Producer, Zaytoven.
Has it been a smooth road?
My journey has been filled with many plot twists but primarily it has been filled with unexpected blessings, grace and favor. I attribute my success to God, a supportive family, my work ethic and my genuine love of others.
Please tell us about The Ivy Philanthropist.
My experiences and desire to do more led me to establish my own non profit and consulting firm that specializes in serving as an active liaison for entertainment industry creatives and the philanthropic world. I serve as the bridge between Creatives having the desire to “give back” and the actual fruition of the project. My team and I also sponsor many community events and support local initiatives for empowering our youth. My proudest moment to date has been my ability to gift Children’s Hospital of Atlanta with a procedure room that will help countless children battling life threatening diseases. This room was funded to honor my family members who are currently battling cancer and those that have succumbed to the disease. My desire to make a difference in the lives of others is what sets me apart from others. I don’t do it for the applause; I do it for the outcome.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love most about our city is our ability to constantly reinvent ourselves. Atlanta is a mecca of diverse people with diverse backgrounds. We have all the ingredients to share experiences and world views in a collaborative manner to improve the current climate of the nation.
