Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabre O’Neil.
Hi Sabre, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Well, I never thought about me being an actual makeup artist or creator. I use to be a dancer in high school and I swore dance was my life. I just knew I would grow up to be one of Beyoncé’s or Rihanna’s backup dancers. The cool relation between me being a dancer back then and now me as a professional makeup artist, I use to do myself and fellow dance mates makeup for our performances and at that time it was just fun to do. After high school, I had an idea of makeup but it wasn’t until I got to college that’s when I wanted to take my career a little more serious.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth road? Chile I wish! However, I’m thankful for every bump I’ve experienced during my journey. I wasn’t always easy to please and/or I learned I lose interest fast, this job/field taught me how to be patient, taught me how to be more creative as in being open to other options cause I may get inspired by their idea too, it also taught me how to be dedicated to something even if it doesn’t work out for you … at first. I truly believe what’s for you will always be for you no matter the circumstances. Yeah, It’s been times I’ve questioned a lot of things but I always revert to the main question “what and who am I doing this for” and then I fall back in love with what I do.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I will claim myself as a makeup artist/creative because that’s what I’m known for but baby I come with a lot! Lol, as a MUA my creativity runs long and strong so I’m always trying to tap into something.
– As a kid, my parents kept me busy, I was a part of activities, on vacations, road trips was my favorite, my granny kept me a stylist which is also something that stick with me
I cater to making people feel good! Doing makeup is just a plus. I love the creative being I am because I know what it’s like to not fit in. My talent is what keeps them interested but it’s me as a person that keeps my business going. Listening is key to communicating so I would say that’s a skill set that sets me apart. I listen and I move on it and that’s something I had to learn so I would say that’s one of my proudest moments, learning how to communicate better, learning how to understand better by just listening.
What are your plans for the future?
Yikes! This is scary but yes, I actually just graduated from Esthetic school (Nov 2022) so my next big thing is tapping into the esthetics field and building my name there. Makeup and esthetics go hand and hand so this was a great decision for my business and my brand. My plan is to move to ATL for good and open up a wellness spa down there. I currently live in NYC but my heart loves Atlanta. I have such a good time when I’m there so that’s one of the biggest goals I’ve set! Moving to another state for good & building my NEW business /life out there.
