Meet Sakeitha King of Pink House Pretty in Sandy Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sakeitha King.

Sakeitha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Pink House Pretty is an Atlanta based salon that offers elite hair and makeup services for working professionals, film/tv production, and talented artists and actors.

I was inspired to create this business to share my gift with others. We’ve all heard when you look good you feel good. I like to say – when we feel good we treat others better.

Hairstyling and artistry were a second language in my Virgin Island home growing up. Both my grandmother and her sister were hairdressers. In fact, the name Pink House Pretty was inspired by my grandmother’s penchant for having our house painted various colors- one day in high school, I came home to a freshly painted pink house which quickly became a marker for giving directions in our neighborhood! Little did I know, that from that Pink House, I would have the opportunities I’ve had to share my gift of beauty with others.

Like most of us who graduated from college during the recession I walked into a very “real world”. I accepted and decided that this was my beginning. I started toward a dream using a talent I almost took for granted. Upon completing cosmetology school, I entered beauty industry as a regional manager for a pro hair care line. It was in this role that I honed my skills in artistry, education, and color theory. I constantly reach for opportunities to grow and strengthen my craft.

My abilities are always elevated when I work with other experts who are passionate and willing to positively impact up and coming stylists. Being chosen to be a part of the Philly Fashion Week Hair Team led by Kia Sterling, was a major milestone for my career. Which is why I believe that when you teach, you learn again.

I transplanted to Atlanta, Ga from Baltimore, MD. I work in film, television, and photography and best of all Pink House Pretty Salon found a home in Sandy Springs, GA. My clients motivate me to continue growing as a hairstylist and makeup artist.

Has it been a smooth road?
I am reminded of a reggae song I used to hear growing up “It’s Not an Easy Road” by Buju Banton. One of the lyrics outlines that from birth, we have to overcome obstacles. This journey hasn’t been easy but as we experience life, we realize that no journey is.

Like for most Americans, the recession was a major time of struggle. For many of us, there were periods of no work, part-time work and full-time work with no longevity or future for growth. Nonetheless, I decided to align my goals with my talents when I started cosmetology school part-time. That first step toward my dream took two years to complete. Life suddenly became all-inclusive in this I experienced rejection, acceptance, loss, gain, success, and failures personally and professionally with all the emotions that come along with those experiences. Having been through that, I too used the lessons I learned during my struggles to propel me forward to new experiences and levels. I go into these new spaces with the resolve that I will learn something about others, my craft and myself -the goal is always to make it beautiful.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
