Meet Salaam Rasheed of Athens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Salaam Rasheed.

Hi Salaam, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
COVID hit and they shut down all of the brick and mortars. My clients, they depend on me, and I hate to disappoint my clientele. I wanted it to be a personal experience where everybody feels like this is their little peace of mind. I just want people to feel like they can come here and just be whoever they want to be, no matter what race, creed, color you’re from … It doesn’t matter. If you can grow it, I can groom it. I wanted to give people a different experience, but still get an old school haircut.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a smooth transition for the most part. I would say the most difficult aspect of it is explaining to people that they can actually get their haircut inside the bus versus merely pulling up and bringing my tools and equipment inside of a facility. It’s such a unique setup that a lot of people have to actually see it in order to be sold.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional barber, known for my mobile barbershop. I have been cutting hair since I was nine years old. I decided early on that barbering was the career path for me. I enjoy transforming customers and interacting and having the conversations. I really do it out of a passion. I specialize in straight razor shave, clipper shave, scissor cuts, razor cuts, dreadlocks, wicks, and more.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I think most people don’t know that I am an amazing cook. Those who do know that I can cook underestimate my ability. I cook and bake on the regular basis.
