Today we’d like to introduce you to Sallywhite.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sallywhite. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Born and raised in Thomson, GA. Currently located in Atlanta, GA. I fell in love with rhyming after my cousin gave me Field Mob’s “Ashy to Classy” CD. I had a passion for art and drawing so naturally, I began to embrace painting pictures with rhymes. Constantly writing and perfecting my flow, I dreamed of getting a major record deal one day. They say if you wanna make God laugh, tell him your plans. Unsure of how to actually get in the music industry and lacking resources (a.k.a. broke AF, lol), I did music with the hobby mind frame and not ambitiously as I should have. Fast forward through several dead-end jobs and a pointless Mass Communications degree, I still have a love for creating music. Going on my fifth project, I’m more focused on doing it independently and continuing to organically build a buzz. The positive feedback I have been receiving definitely inspires me to keep pushing to be heard. In due time, with faith and perseverance, I will get my shot. If you vibing with the music, spread the word. Or if you just diggin’ the Salsa and want to grab some Sallywhite Merch, that’s awesome too. And remember, Sallywhite is one word.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely… NOT. My biggest struggle is just believing in myself and not being afraid to take that leap. You will never know until you try. Expect failure. Everybody’s story is different. You have to figure out your path to success and do what works for you. Just know when I do make it, I really came from nothing. With that being said, I love the struggle. I believe it gives you a stronger tolerance for handling success.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Suthern Official Ent story. Tell us more about the business.
Sallywhite is a brand by itself. Suthern Official Entertainment is a record label a few of my colleagues and I found during college. You might hear me screamin’ or reppin’ 503 a lot. 503 is just a different way to say SOE by using numbers instead of letters. It’s mainly rap/hip-hop. I like to categorize it as creative because I’m usually expressing whatever feeling the beat provides or something I may be going through in life. I’m known for my clever lines, southern drawl, and fashion. As a brand, I’m most proud of having the platform to touch people and showing them to not only chase their dreams but to become them. My originality sets me apart from others. The way my music and style clash may seem strange. After people process it, I usually get dope reviews and encouragement to continue being different.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, I see myself touring, writing, and collaborating with another artist. Also, helping aspiring artist get their voice heard. Somewhere along the way, I will tie the fashion into the mix, be it working with a brand I admire such as Puma or having my own line.
