Meet Tyler Scriven of Saltbox in Upper Westside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Scriven.

Thanks for sharing your story with us. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Before moving to Atlanta, I worked for many years in Silicon Valley. I was part of the leadership team at a major software company called Palantir. I had always dreamed of the Silicon Valley life and lived it, but I recognized there was a bubble and that there were also great opportunities to be found elsewhere, outside of the Valley.

I have family in Atlanta and when I looked at the city, I could see that it is growing fast and offers incredible opportunities for entrepreneurial innovation. I wanted to be a part of that innovation and the decision to move four years ago was an easy one.

In 2016 I acquired a company called True Glory Brands which quickly grew into one of the largest retailers of hair extensions in the country. Despite the company growth, we still struggled to find a decent workspace that was functional for our team to collaborate as well as store and ship our product. We couldn’t find any workspace that provided us with an entrepreneurial ecosystem. Solving this problem for my own business and others like it became my passion and that is what led me to creating Saltbox.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s still early for us at Saltbox, but it’s been smooth so far. I think building products and companies I love is inherently difficult and finding ways to successfully deliver to scale is even more difficult.

Having started and/or been a part of some successful companies in the past makes it a bit easier to get off the ground, but ultimately the real challenge lies ahead.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Saltbox story. Tell us more about the business.
Saltbox is a modern cowarehousing and coworking and space located in Atlanta’s Upper Westside. The space is approximately 27,000 square feet and currently home to 30+ members supporting 20+ businesses. The Saltbox purpose is to build communities for the millions of entrepreneurs that operate in the world of physical commerce. These entrepreneurs need warehouse space but don’t want to surrender their expectations of modern flexibility, comfort, and convenience. The functional micro-warehousing facilities along with the traditional coworking capabilities that Saltbox provides equips entrepreneurs and small business with a space and community that can grow with them as their business grows. Saltbox Memberships are month-to-month and include utilities, high-speed wifi, warehouse equipment, loading dock access, conference rooms, common areas, photography capabilities, and quiet booths with an added benefit of working among peers.

I’m most proud of giving our members a workspace that they themselves can be proud of. So often our members are coming to us from prior working environments that are functionally suboptimal and stripped them of their dignity as entrepreneurs. Saltbox gives that back to them.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Atlanta is an excellent place to start a new company. It’s a city full of resources like Saltbox, a growing technology community, and countless community organizations like, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Georgia Department of Economic Growth, and Invest Atlanta.

Atlanta has a thriving culture and we’re excited to see it happening around us.
