Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Feigenbaum.
Hi Sam, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started photography about six years ago, just before I moved to Atlanta. I took a corporate job to support myself but also used the commute on MARTA trains to shoot some photography. After three years, I decided to go back to school to pursue photography as a full-time gig. I attended Creative Circus and ultimately came back to teach a few basic photography classes and serve as the department advisor. Now I work as a freelance digital technician to make money and have time to choose photography projects that I’m passionate about!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road always has to be a little bumpy, right? Of course, my transition from the corporate world to the creative world had to happen around the pandemic. My first series of classes were online, and that can be pretty difficult when learning photography and lighting techniques! There’s also internal battles that come with big decisions like going back to school, changing careers, and the mental struggle to promote myself. Always at least a little bumpy in the road, but at least there’s a road!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My main thing is working with good people. I love to work as a digital technician for skilled photographers that are fun and personable onset and offset. It gives me a chance to learn more about my passion by working firsthand and getting to know some great people!
I also really enjoy using my photography to help people. I specialize in candid event photography as well as some portrait work. While I try to help everyone that approaches me, my main focus is working with other artists. I love documenting the artistic process and producing images that they can use to promote their own work. One of my favorite areas is musician photography- shooting portraits, album work, and especially behind-the-scenes candid moments for bands. Basically just capturing moments of good people doing good work!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Atlanta has some awesome energy, and you can always find people trying to make it a better city. I feel like as a creative professional, there are so many great people to work with in Atlanta, and the community has a feeling of “all ships rise with the tide”. Atlanta’s big weakness, in my opinion, is in transportation. The train system could be a lot better, and the traffic and infrastructure is just terrible. That and that summer heat!
