Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Kok.
Sam, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I first moved to Decatur in 2010, I love how the city is develop with these unique style of food in town. When I heard Thai Bowl is for sale, I immediately approach the owner and decided to buy the business. I have this vibe about the location and the style of food. I kept all the receipt the same for the Thai food, added some Japanese and Chinese food to my menu. This will give my customer a better selection that wants variety of Asian Foods. I also like to build model airplane so rebuilding the atmosphere of the restaurant to a comfortable family-like restaurant is what I always want to do. I gutted the restaurant down to white box. With some help and research, I have design Green Ginger what is today. Our most popular dish is the build your own noodle bowl. The customer selects the type of broth they want, some want a heavy taste, and some wants a light taste. Then you can select rice noodle or egg noodle. The customer can also add some vegetable or meat with their noodle bowl.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When we first start the business was really slow since not everybody know what we sell. So I decided to give as much as I could God and see if God can help me. I invited a different church every weekend on the house after the church gets out.
Please tell us about Green Ginger.
When iPad was still pretty new, we had iPad install on every table for our customer to look through our menu with pictures of food. The iPad also had games on them so the parents could enjoy their meal while the kids are entertained.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have design a bigger kitchen to handle the business we have now. The kitchen is to small to handle the business we have now.
