Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Falk.
Samantha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I work in the TV and Film industry and I started to get a lot of bad breakouts. I was really concerned and started talking a lot to the makeup artists on set. I didn’t realize that a lot of the reason I was having breakouts was due to my recently found gluten allergy… and apparently, a lot of makeup actually contains gluten! Now, if we backtrack to a few months before, I was living with a friend of mine who also had a gluten allergy, her gluten allergy was awful… we even had to use different toasters. That was when I learned a lot about gluten. Shortly after moving out, I was told I had a gluten allergy. It was hard enough shifting the foods I eat, but now… now, I have to shift my makeup too?!
This was when I decided to start doing some research. I was already obsessed with makeup and I even have my own room FULL of makeup that I like to call my “Glam Room.” Now, I am going crazy sitting on my floor staring at ingredients with a giant pile of makeup that I cannot wear anymore. This is when I decided that maybe I should invest in my own line of products. Products with ingredients that are good for you, products that I would put on my own face and wear proudly. I wanted to make sure my line was not only healthy for your face but also long-wearing. Watching talent have their makeup melt off their face in a matter of minutes every day on set made me determined to make sure my makeup can hold and last. This is how Exotic Vixen Cosmetics was born.
Has it been a smooth road?
I wouldn’t say it has been a super bumpy road but it hasn’t been a fully paved road either. Some of the challenges I run into are mainly because it’s a new brand however once people actually wear the makeup I get rave reviews and they become return customers. A lot of people are scared to try a new line because they don’t want to break out and they like what they know even if it isn’t the best for their skin but that was also the main reason I wanted to come out with a line. To prevent skin damage and help people fall back in love with their makeup products and their face again.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Exotic Vixen Cosmetics story. Tell us more about the business.
I am the owner of Exotic Vixen Cosmetics and I pretty much do everything from designing the templates and sending the orders to the lab, to making sure the formula is good and the customer is happy. I work with a lab who makes sure all of the formulas are up to par. All of our items are made to order so that we do not have to worry about people getting lipsticks or eye-shadows that have been sitting on a shelf for a few months. I believe that what you put on your face has to be good for you, so I stand proudly behind the fact that my brand is vegan, paraben-free, cruelty-free, hypoallergenic, and gluten-free.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I would love to see Exotic Vixen Cosmetics become a household brand name among the many great makeup lines that are out there. Everyone who has tried our line has been extremely happy with the product and comes back for more. Who knows, maybe one day you’ll see us in Sephora or Ulta Beauty? =D
