Meet Samone Scurry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samone Scurry.

Hi Samone, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a 31-year-old Mother, Childcare Provider and Entrepreneur. I am originally from Far Rockaway, New York, but currently reside in Lithonia, Ga. I first started caring for young children in 2009 as a student at Fort Valley State University. It has now expanded to an almost 14-year career in Early Childhood Education. I was a classroom teacher until COVID closed the schools. During the pandemic, I had the desire to serve my community and opened an in-home daycare; It Takes THE Village EDC LLC. I cared for children ages 0-5, as well as assisted school-aged children with virtual learning. I was so proud to be able to provide a safe space for learning, help my community, and provide income for a few teacher friends! Since the ending of the pandemic, THE Village LLC has transitioned into private childcare and child party entertainment. I now apply my expertise to a small group of children in the comfort of their homes, i.e., nanny shares and homeschooling. I am grateful for this transition because it allows me to stay in my passion but with a lighter workload, which is much needed due to having Fibromyalgia. I also host birthday parties, dressed in costume according to their party theme. I provide unique games and activities based off STEAM that are always crowd-pleasers. Hosting often provides opportunities for me to network my other businesses.

During the pandemic, I also turned my hobbies into a custom apparel, decor and more business, After the Stitch PRINTS LLC. It started with making custom masks, t-shirts and drinking glasses and has grown into creating all things DIY. As a creator, it is exciting to bring people’s visions for their special moments to life. It is rewarding to be able to turn nothing into someone’s dream celebration. From 3D cutouts to painting to sewing, there isn’t a request I haven’t been able to fulfill. Having this business allows me to be an asset to my party clients, offering package deals. My most popular package includes 2 hours of hosting with three games/activities, a centerpiece, a cake topper, a party favor, treat bags/boxes, a shirt for the honoree, and catering from my restaurant, The Potato Sack LLC.

The Potato Sack LLC is a pickup and catering restaurant. It started from a craving. I wanted two different meals and decided to combine them. I served my family and friends and we all agreed, I was on to something. We are home of the WING FRIES, an Atlanta Wing twist on the loaded fry. It is perfect for mixers, festivals, and shopping! Check out our full menu on Facebook @thepotatosack and order today!

Whether I am caring for my students, creating a work of art, or serving up a delicious meal, I am always overjoyed to provide different services to my community. However, my proudest and most important job is being a mother to my 8-year-old son, Josiah. I manage to still find time and energy to help with school, be a Team Mom on his championship football team and invest in his taekwondo. There is no greater reward than watching him grow. Thanks to him and my partner, I was encouraged to start modeling. They noticed how people who look like me are inspired by my confidence. I loved the idea of helping little plus-size girls see themselves represented in beauty and fashion. I believe we have to move with purpose and intention, and I live every day following my dreams, trying to do just that!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There has been some obstacles along the way. Building consistent clientele has the biggest challenge for each business. It is understandable that people want to make sure they are getting the quality they deserve for their hard-working money. Having to make major purchases and repairs with all funds being out of pocket is an obstacle from time to time. Unfortunately, I have come across a few obstacles with customers; however, I am confident in my work and have learned to send out my policy and procedures to each customer. I am grateful for every obstacle as they have all been learning experiences.

We’ve been impressed with It Takes THE Village EDC LLC, After the Stitch PRINTS LLC, The Potato Sack LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a multi-entrepreneur. As an educator, I specialize in teaching children ages 0-5. I include components of STEAM into every lesson to encourage creativity. I love exposing my students to opportunities not usually given to small children through hands-on activities and field trips. I believe it is important to keep a connection with your community. I get the most satisfaction when families are surprised at what their child can do. I don’t ever plan to retire as an educator. I want to forever be known as the teacher who took a chance on her students. I pride myself in treating each child like a productive member of our society. They are treated with respect for their ideas and feelings.

As a party host, Rainbow Mo brings the party! I don’t just show up in costume, I bring games and activities to excite and stimulate. I dive deep into the theme and provide a full experience. Your guests even leave with a party favor they created! I am so proud to be a black representation of their favorite characters often being royalty and heroes! I love that I am able to combine all my businesses for the convenience of my customers.

As a creator, I am fearless. I believe with the proper research, I can create anything. My customers feel comfortable bringing me their wildest visions to create. I value each celebration. We all just went through a scary time and mustn’t take for granted the good times. So, I feel honored when they put their trust in me. I am known for starting from scratch. Often my medium is a cardboard box, each time you order from me, you can ensure it will be personal and like nothing you’ve ever seen before.

As a restaurant owner, I was excited to contribute to the Atlanta culture in an innovative way. With an Atlanta twist on the loaded fry, WING FIRES come in eight different wing flavors. We offer celery, lemon pepper sprinkles, ranch and bleu cheese as garnish! It is a delicious meal when you are on the go. I enjoy watching my customers enjoy their festival or day out shopping with the convenience of our potato sacks.

I am a one stop shop for all your celebration needs and I am proud of that, I have many talents and I am grateful to be able to use them to serve my community.

What matters most to you?
Raising a confident, well-rounded person who is healthy in mind, body, and soul is what matters most to me. I will be an example of strength, health, and success. I want Josiah to be fearless in following his dreams. Unfortunately, he will have sets backs and labels put on him as a black man and I want to be an example of living above it all. I was told to just apply for disability because of my Fibromyalgia and PCOS, I have three businesses! I can’t count how many times I was told my race, weight, height, personality, even my hair would hinder my dreams. Children today need to see that just being the best version of themselves is enough. I know that being your best self everyday isn’t easy buy everyday I try to be the best I can be that day!
