Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Smith Jr.
Hi Samuel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
This business started in 2005 once I graduated from culinary school. I began selling cake slices across the Metro Atlanta area for six and a half years. This allowed me to save up for my first location in East Point Ga in 2011. We have been growing steadily ever year since then. We sell whole cakes and cake slices to customers that come in the store, and deliver within a 20 mile radius. We also provide catering to a good portion of companies in the metro Atlanta area. We have been able to start working on a second location in McDonough Ga as well.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a difficult road mainly in the beginning stages, because you’re learning a lot of new things that you have not experienced before. Once you get more experience under your belt, and create a good system that can really be helpful. Some of the other challenges are trying to qualify for capital to grow your business. The other challenges you can face at time are finding the best staff members that enjoy making the desserts, and being apart of the team that provide good customer service.
We’ve been impressed with Sammy CheezeCake, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Sammy CheezeCake we specialize in amazing homemade desserts like NY Style Cheesecakes, Red Velvet Cakes, Strawberry Cakes, Butter Sour Cream Pound Cakes, German Chocolate Cake, Lemon Cake, Cookie Butter Cake, Snickers Cheesecake, Reese’s Cheesecake, Keylime Cheesecake, and also our famous cheesecake mini’s. We are focused on providing a deliciously consistent product that is made fresh daily with only the best ingredients.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I would advise business owners to take a cohort course on learning the different portions of the business. I was able to take a course that taught me about the finances of the business, marketing, and putting together a growth plan. This was very helpful for me.
