Meet Sandra Lewis-Glass of SLG Media Productions in Stonecrest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Lewis-Glass.

Sandra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
SLG Media is a video production and graphic design company. Originally from the UK, I moved to Miami about 20 years and actually started working in the music industry, and while I was there I attended film school and about a year or so after graduation I moved to Atlanta and decided to go back to school for graphic design. After I graduated I decided to get back into TV production and started producing a local TV show which we shot on the weekends and I incorporated my newly acquired graphic design skills to create a new logo, website and all the branding and social media materials for the show. I then started getting calls from other people to produce their shows, as well as calls for graphic design work. In 2010, I formed SLG Media Productions and have been working at it full-time since 2012.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. There are lots of challenges in this business and of course, the main one is having a constant source of funding. This business seems to be cyclical – from late March to early December there seems to be quite a lot of work, but you definitely have to have savings put away for that quiet quarter! It doesn’t help if you have clients who are slow payers, that also can also create a challenge.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The company has grown through collaboration. As well as the social media marketing, graphic design, web design and video production, we also offer strategic solutions for small businesses, non-profits and government entities. Some of our services include assistance with all of the industry certifications like SBA 8Aa, DOT, MBE, WBE, HUBZone, GSA; strategic planning, program development, business plan writing, incorporation, non-profit set-up and capacity building, grant writing, corporate communications and more.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a voracious reader and I loved the arts – music, film, painting, writing. I was always changing what I wanted to be because I enjoyed so many things. I thought for sure I would spend my days writing clever liner notes at the back of album covers… but they don’t exist anymore! Then I thought I would be a travel writer… which I guess I could still do – I still love to travel! My personality? I was quiet growing up, but I always had a lot of friends – I enjoy adventures and those are no fun by yourself!
