Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Wolf Mixon.
Sara, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started out in vintage in L5P and was recruited by Saks Fifth Avenue and that began my journey into luxury clothing. I was at SFA for almost five years when Tootsies came calling. Tootsies was moving into Shoppes Around Lenox and wanted to expand their sales staff. I went for an interview thinking that this was not for me but absolutely fell in love with company, so, I left Saks and started my new career the day we opened the new location March 22, 2003. The beginning was quite different for as I was used to, a huge store and lots of activity at all times. Tootsies was a totally new experience. Mickey Rosmarin, the founder of Tootsies, was all about the relationship with the customer. He instilled that in me from the very beginning. After starting in sales , I expanded my role to events coordinator and I now plan about 40 events a year. Tootsies is very committed to partnering with the community and many of its non profits such as GOCA, PBTF, CHOA, etc. Love being a part of giving back and nurturing all of those relationships.
Has it been a smooth road?
There have definitely been some struggles. When we first opened, we were practically the only store in the shopping center and we really had to work to get our name out there. Of course, the biggest struggle was losing our beloved founder and my fairy godfather, Mickey Rosmarin, quite suddenly two years ago.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Tootsies – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Tootsies is a women’s full line specially retail store. We can wardrobe a client who wants casual sportswear all the way to special occasion black tie. We have many of the same lines that bigger luxury department stores as well as some up and coming names who are more hands on and make personal appearances at the store from time to time.
At Tootsies, we really pride ourselves on giving the best customer service. In the world we live in today, everything is so impersonal. When you walk into our boutique, we want to make you feel at home and completely taken care of. We are the complete opposite of a big box store. It’s all about the personal details for us. Complementary beverages while you are shopping, reserved parking spaces for our guests, appointments with our seasoned stylists just to name a few.
Our flagship store and corporate office is in Houston, Texas. We also have a location in Dallas, Texas. As a company, Tootsies has done an amazing job of taking care of its people and the communities we are in.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the lush greenery everywhere. It is quite a site. I love that our city is the epicenter of the civil rights movement and all the energy you feel around it. I love that there are so many eclectic neighborhoods and all sorts of activities to get into. I definitely do not love the traffic.
