Meet Sarah Barnett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Barnett.

Hi Sarah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It’s been a bit of a winding road. I started my career in Chicago/ San Francisco in recruiting, sales, marketing, tech & business development but as I moved home and spent more time in “an office”, I knew I wanted something more creative. I lost my job and then took one I knew I wouldn’t like at the very beginning of 2020. By the beginning of March 2020, I was unemployed, feeling inspired, scared and scrappy, then entered the birth of my business. I really went back to the drawing board (no pun intended) on what made me happy and I kept coming back to interior design, furniture, styling, putting rooms together. It’s in my blood so it’s not a massive surprise, more of a, “oh cool, I wondered if I’d ever arrive here” moment.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, but I was never expecting it to be terribly smooth. I’m a pretty resilient and resourceful person and I knew that starting my business and embarking on that challenge in the early days of a global pandemic wouldn’t be easy. At the same time though, I told myself that if I could get this off the ground under these stressors and in this climate, this thing might have some staying power. One of the biggest struggles is scheduling and locking in new clients while maintaining current client work. This is an aspect of the job that I will continue to encounter and navigate – kind of an age-old quandary – especially as a small business owner. But it’s true what they say, the law of attraction of it all, when opportunities come knocking, be prepared for others to follow suit.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an interior designer – I work on projects that range from remodels to new builds but have an affinity for incorporating heirloom or vintage furniture & decor whenever possible. I’m most proud of the continuous growth since I began this path in 2020. I’ve had projects in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Detroit and Chicago so far which makes me incredibly proud and excited for what’s to come. I think what sets me apart is my interest, willingness and drive to learn about different sectors of the business. I don’t want to pigeonhole myself into either residential or commercial projects. I am always looking to take projects in other cities and work in spaces that might not come across as “traditional” interior design projects.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My dog, Joan and my cat, Ernie. My sister, dad and aunts and close chosen family in Atlanta. Oysters. A classic daiquiri cocktail. And happy clients, of course 🙂
