Meet Sarah Scott of Copper & Co Marketing in Kennesaw

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Scott.

Sarah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I worked full-time in various real estate administrative roles while studying Public Relations at Kennesaw State University. Both fortunately and unfortunately, my leaders didn’t quite differentiate between Marketing and PR, so they had me help them with their social media accounts as a student.

I fell in love with curating content that connects with my audience, so I started studying more about it through various free courses and, of course, Google University even after I graduated from KSU in 2017. Various roles within the Hospitality and Nonprofit industries allowed me to expand my professional skills while also allowing me to stay connected on projects happening with various marketing departments.

I’ve known that I wanted to be an entrepreneur since 2016, but the “AHA!” moment for my business plan came to me in May 2019 when some family friends that owned a vacation rental property asked if I could assist with setting up social media for their property. Since then, I’ve been helping womxn entrepreneurs with Instagram strategy so they can reclaim time and focus on making more money in their businesses!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Entrepreneurship has been a journey to say the least. There are definitely challenges like figuring out when to pivot in a business plan or realizing you don’t have it all together but overall, the community and support I have found in entrepreneurship has made the difficult days much, much easier. There is a comfort to be found in realizing that you’re not the first person to encounter such challenges and will certainly not be the last.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Copper & Co Marketing story. Tell us more about the business.
Copper & Co is a social media agency that helps womxn with a social strategy so they can reclaim their time and make more money in their businesses. The current focus is on leveraging Instagram to connect my clients with their ideal customers. The long-term goal is to build out a womxn-led social media agency that focuses on organic growth strategies across all social platforms.

I’m most proud of building a brand that’s built on trust and well-rounded relationships with my target audience. I like to think of the Copper & Co audience as small but mighty, and hope to keep high regard for client-centric practices even as the company grows.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
“Luck” is a funny thing. I know that so many entrepreneurs claim to have boot-strapped it from the bottom, but I truly believe that luck has played a part in most of our stories. Where we grow up, our life experiences and that whole “nature vs. nurture” thing play their unique roles in who we are and what opportunities we have access to.

TLDR: I’m “lucky” in that I was born in a place and time where being a woman entrepreneur is easier than it has been, historically, despite the ever-present challenges we still face. I’m “lucky” that my parents pushed me to excel and attend schools where there have been abundant opportunities. Luckiest of all, I have come to the chance to network with some amazing folks who’ve supported me more than I could ever dream of. Did that answer the question?
