Today we’d like to introduce you to Sasha Johnson.
Sasha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my journey out as a single mother with two sons that I was raising on my own. This inspired me to choose to live my life without any limits so that my sons would understand that there are no limitations to the success that they can have in life. I wanted to lead by example for my children. I decided to start the organization to help other women that needed the same support that I once needed. The truth is I understood the loneliness and the feeling of defeat and failure. I remember having to work myself to death just to make ends meet and having to overcome not only being a single mother but a short and abusive marriage. I then also decided that I wanted to go into the career of being a counselor and I went to college while providing for my children and obtained my master’s degree and now, I am a counselor serving Alabama and Georgia. I never would have thought that I would have been able to reach this level of success in my life, but one thing for sure is that I am never going to give up. I plan to continue to grow my business and continue to help people in the community.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I have had to overcome being able to balance running a business and working odd jobs on the side to keep things together. It is very difficult to establish proper support and funding for a business. I will not give up and things are better than they were when I started.
Please tell us about Sister’s 2nd Chance.
My business provides support through conferences, financial assistance, and pro bono counseling services. I am a counselor and I specialize in working with individuals that are suffering from various mental health issues or challenges. I am known for doing whatever I can to help people in the community. I am proud that as a company we have been able to impact even more individuals each year.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is when I was a little girl, I loved to play what we called school, but of course, I was even a boss then because I would never let my friends or my poor siblings be the teacher. Instead, I had to run the show.
