Today we’d like to introduce you to Satchel Sherman.
Satchel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started out in Cosmetic Retail at Ulta Beauty and I wasn’t completely convinced on a career in makeup. While working for Ulta Beauty, I was a Beauty Advisor selling drugstore, high-end brand makeup, and fragrance. I became educated and enlightened on beauty products and exclusive releases. I left Ulta and I went to MUA school at Gwynnis Mosby Makeup Academy to learn theory and the art of makeup. There I was trained and I honed in on specifically what I wanted to do in makeup. Special Makeup Effects really caught my eye and from there on, I began taking a la carte classes from The Engineer Guy located in Hapeville, GA. Shortly after, I booked my first gig with Instagram and YouTube Sensation Cameron Henderson, where I aged him and his crew for a retirement home dance scene. I knew I had to brand my talent, and June 2018 The Gory Peach Atlanta was born. Ever since then, I’ve been booking exciting film/TV projects.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing in life is just a walk in the park, then BOOM! Success! Of course, that’s not realistic. Standing out and having an original brand is a struggle due to the fact that the beauty industry is saturated and Atlanta itself is saturated with makeup artists.
Please tell us about The Gory Peach Atlanta.
The Gory Peach Atlanta is a mobile business that offers SFX, Wig Construction/Customization, and Beauty makeup application. The Gory Peach Atlanta was established in the summer of 2018, originally only offering SFX and gore. We are known for the bloody, candid, shocking, chilling side of makeup, hence how we got the creative name of The Gory Peach Atlanta. What sets this business apart from the others is that in one setting, you can get a simulated wound, a realistic customized wig applied, and a glamorous makeover. We offer the ultimate beat, slay, and beatdown. I am proud of the different collaborations and filmmakers that have allowed me to show my craft. One special collab was with Baburka Cinema Productions located in Italy, which was simply amazing. Others include Pineapple Cut Pictures, A’la Mode Films, and Tariq Simmons.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have started fresh out of High school and I wouldn’t have second-guessed a career in makeup. When I was a freshman in college, my close friend Chasidy, was really convincing me to pause seeking my degree and seek a career in beauty. I wish I had listened to her early on because at least she would have seen me being true to myself before she passed.
