Meet Sean “DJ Conan” Collier of Twin Beats Enterprises

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean “DJ Conan” Collier.

Sean, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Extremely humbled to even share my story. Which is rather unconventional. I am a former firefighter/medic for Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services. I served the neighborhood I grew up in (College Park/Riverdale and the surrounding Clayton County community. I also worked in the Emergency dept at Emory University Hospital Midtown (formerly Crawford Long) where I met my wife/mother of my children. We were blessed with a healthy set of twins…Mason and Mycai. I wanted to create a life beyond the dangers of fighting fires or working in the emergency setting, not to mention the long hours 12-24hr shifts. I always wanted to have a part in music, thanks to my mother who raised me solely…Kim Collier of Neptune, NJ. She loved music and that love for good quality storytelling to a beat became I passion I also shared.

I began teaching myself to DJ about four years ago. I took my paycheck from work, bought my first controller and we were off. I had ZERO clue how to use this thing. But I would practice into the night and sometimes all day on my off days…& there were times I could be found at the fire station in the bay with the trucks, set up and practicing as well. I consumed myself with music and began organizing a plan…I think all little boys are good at cooking up plans that make absolutely no sense. Anyways, I built and built on my craft and decided that maybe I could incorporate my love for music with helping people…which I also enjoyed (hence being a fireman). I joined Unity in Our Community ATL with L.A. Pink (a devoted woman of God who has dedicated her life to giving to a handup and not handout to the community and any walk of life she can bless in the Atlanta area. As I grew as a DJ….I progressively became a professional in my own lane. I didn’t have the 15-25 years behind the turntables but as a 26 years martial artist…I understood what focus and ambition could do. Twin Beats Enterprises was born in 2012 (the year my kids were born). I didn’t have anything….no logo, no website, no following. I began DJing with promoters, clubs, radio stations and even music festivals in the Atlanta area…I was even blessed enough to do events with the Democratic National Convention Committee…extremely humbled. I got to a point where schedule and kids were becoming an issue and I decided, against my initial better judgment to leave my profession as a firefighter/medic and pursue a career as a disc jockey… in Atlanta, Ga. of all places…where there is a DJ on every block. I combined my love for older soul/Motown music with my love for Dirty South legendary music like Outkast, 8-Ball & MJG, 2Pac, J-Cole and many others. The messages in the music fueled me. When I quit the fire department….which I still miss tremendously. I took my firefighter pension that I saved up and bought my first party bus.

I flew with one of my frat brothers to Philly to spend my whole pension on a bus I found on eBay….again not the best idea but what else did I have to lose….two babies at home were depending on me to make something happen. I bought the party bus and drove it from Philly to Atlanta…(it had an engine problem 30 minutes after I purchased it and wouldn’t go faster than 45 mph from Atlanta…heck, I had to get home before 6am to take my kids to school. I continued to build on Djing and working on the bus on the side when I finally got it together approx. five months ago. It’s been a rollercoaster to say the least. I decided to start renting equipment to make extra money because a lot of “DJs” here in Atlanta…didn’t think it was necessary to buy full equipment…(potential 3rd string of income)…I started getting nominated for Awards as a DJ and even partnered with my long time friend and also extraordinary DJ…DJ Dasz (Darius Gilmeme)…he is now the manager of Fleet DJs and he is amazing. My initial inspiration came from a frat brother DJ Kasper (formerly of Atlanta…now in Maryland)…I would often lean on them for guidance but I focused more on creating my own lane. And that’s what Twin Beats Enterprises has become. I am now the Atlanta’s Hottest Event/Club DJ and nominated for a 3rd time at www.atlhottest.com. I am now sitting on 15 streams on income and working to build more. I also became I licensed massage therapist and have grown that business as well… in which I have won “Best Massage Therapist” in a short time at the long time staple “Spa Sydell”.

I’m very focused on building my business ventures into something major that will have a positive influence and impact on the community and the reality my children grow with. The future looks really bright, whereas I have added a 2nd party bus and jet ski which will add to the fleet as well as an apparel line and scholarship for Twin Beats Enterprises. I identify my brand as Atlanta’s Hottest Entertainment enterprise. I am very thankful to my mother and everyone who has supported me because this has been one heck of a rollercoaster but I remember hearing a motivational speech from Steve Harvey that explained that “your parachute will not open, I less you jump!”. I’m living proof that this statement holds true. Thank you and please make sure to follow @twin_beats_enterprises and @3rdeyemassageatl! The Marathon Continues…

Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely not! Maintaining a household, investing in your vision, insurance, marriage, all of these obstacles have made this the hardest journey in my life but I’m optimistic that my hard work and focus will carry me into my new lifestyle.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Twin Beats Enterprises story. Tell us more about the business.
I think what sets Twin Beats Enterprises apart from other companies is the creativity and boldness of the brand. I am won numerous awards in a short time. While the award itself isn’t as important..the fact that people recognize your hard work and quality of your work more than you do…that’s what it’s about. I specialize in DJ Services, Party Bus services, equipment rental, bounce houses, uplighting and apparel.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think the entertainment industry will always be a huge market. It is definitely trendy but staying innovative and creative is the key to staying relevant and believing in yourself. Staying in your own lane that you create makes staying ahead of trends much easier in my opinion.
