Meet Sed Mathis of Legally Fit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sed Mathis.

Sed Mathis

Hi Sed, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Legally Fit as a passion project. I am a practicing personal injury/trial attorney and former collegiate athlete. After graduating from law school and starting my career as an attorney, I found myself spending every ounce of my free time at the gym. I had been getting random comments and questions asking if I was a personal trainer for a while. I had also previously considered getting certified for my own personal knowledge when it came to maximizing my progress in the gym, but when I started attending Stick Shift Fitness, the comments came in daily. I denied wanting to be a trainer for a little over six months and continued to deny it even after I got certified. I had so many people speaking this over me and had acquired the knowledge, so I decided to go for it! I brainstormed sixty-plus business names before I ever convinced myself to train or start selling Legally Fit merch and athletic wear. Out of the long list of names, Legally Fit was the very first to come to mind, and it felt ordained. I was in a space in my life where, more than anything, I was focused on personal growth, and to me, that meant putting myself in uncomfortable positions and doing things that scared me. I turned my anxiousness into excitement and took a leap by launching my personal training services in June of 2022. Next came a logo; I was notorious for wearing cropped hoodies in the gym, so I put my logo on it and started producing them, and I continue to produce and sell athletic wear that is comfortable, compliments the body well during a workout, and involves some sort of legal humor.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has not always been smooth, but it has certainly been worth it. The biggest struggle has been time management. I like to believe my time management skills are above average, thanks to my experiences navigating law school. However, I don’t think I could have prepared myself for the level of time management that would be required to work full-time as a practicing attorney, personal trainer, and entrepreneur. I’ve learned the beauty of taking my time, knowing that everything does not need to be done all at once, and relying on God and my village to pull me through and get everything done.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Legally Fit?
Legally Fit is a mentality. It is more than a fitness brand; it’s a way of life. With a focus on overall wellness, through my programs, I instill in clients the importance of self-love, ambition, and a positive attitude towards yourself and your goals. To be Legally Fit means that your mind, body, and spirit are connected and focused on self-love and being the happiest and healthiest version of yourself. What do you like and dislike about the city?
Truthfully, as an Atlanta native, I love almost everything about my city. What I love most are the people of Atlanta and how versatile and talented we are. My least favorite thing is probably everybody’s least favorite thing about Atlanta: the traffic! But, in my experience, it’s the implants who aren’t from here that cause the most traffic.
