Today we’d like to introduce you to Shalewa Kadree.
Hi Shalewa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Smell Good, Feel Good began in one of my favorite places: the kitchen. My love for a little “kitchen witchin’” started with my eldest sister. I’d watch her craft meals infused with love, mix tonics and tinctures for every ailment, and whip up scrubs, soaps, and oils that made you feel as radiant on the outside as you did within.
Over time, I began creating my own serums, oils, and scrubs to meet my skincare needs. A few years later, what started as handmade care-in-a-box gifts for family and friends, filled with everything needed for a cozy night of self-care, quickly grew into something more. As the boxes became more elaborate and the requests more frequent, I was encouraged to share my creations with the world.
And just like that, Smell Good, Feel Good was born: a blend of love, ritual, and the belief that when you care for yourself, you glow from the inside out.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has certainly been a journey. One of my biggest obstacles has been imposter syndrome and doubting the knowledge and ability I know I have, simply because my path looks different from others in the same arena. This experience has been a true lesson in authenticity.
Coming from the corporate world, I spent a lot of time trying to apply those same structures and tactics, rather than leaning into what felt most genuine to me and the brand I wanted to build. It’s still a work in progress, but with every step, I’m learning to trust myself more; to let my voice, my rhythm, and my vision lead the way. Progress may be slow, but it’s steady, and it feels more me with every move forward.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In the corporate world, I served as Vice President of Marketing for a healthcare IT firm specializing in electronic health record systems. Over the course of a decade, I worked my way up from an administrative professional to an executive role, gaining a deep understanding of both strategy and execution along the way.
One of my proudest achievements was leading a full brand overhaul and relaunch that was met with tremendous success. That experience not only strengthened my professional skill set but also gave me the confidence to launch my own brand; knowing that I could build and market something meaningful from the ground up.
I’m a lifelong learner, and that’s something that truly sets me apart. I’m always eager to explore new skills and perspectives because I’ve learned that even if something doesn’t seem immediately useful, it often becomes valuable in unexpected ways. You never know when a piece of knowledge or experience will connect the dots and that curiosity keeps me growing, both personally and professionally.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The things that matter most to me are my family, my peace, and my authenticity. My family is my center, my inspiration, and my foundation. It’s even reflected in the meaning of my first name, Omo-Shalewa, which loosely translates to “I searched all around the world to find the best family for me.”
Peace and authenticity are deeply intertwined for me. As I’ve grown and evolved, I’ve learned that I can’t sacrifice one for the other. I cannot have true peace if I’m not living authentically, and I cannot be authentic if I’m constantly disturbing my own peace. The two are in constant conversation, requiring balance, intention, and care and I do my best to honor them both every day.
