Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanai Jenkins.
Hi Shanai, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It started off at my last year at Fordham University, I was not sure what class I wanted to take, and decided why not take a photography class. Four years later, I am an NYC-published photographer. Not only am I based in NYC I also travel. Photography is my passion and I love taking photos of people. It makes them feel good about themselves.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been smooth with a few bumps when COVID hit us. I lost the first studio I worked out of, but found a better one as well as my mentor.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a PhotograpHER, and I love to take photos of women. Us women, we are a work of art, to look good is to feel good! When I make my clients feel good, it makes me feel good. A lot of my clients aren’t models, they work regular 9-5 jobs, and have families at home. I think what sets me apart from others is that I make my clients feel comfortable. Sometimes it can be pretty weird getting your photos taken, but after getting to know my subjects and making them feel comfortable, they get into supermodel mode!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was always the same person. Even growing up, I was a people person, a lover. Kind to everyone I meet, fun. My interest was honestly all over the place. One day I wanted to dance, the next day I wanted to play basketball.
