Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaniqua Nicole.
Shaniqua, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m the eldest of eight siblings so I knew that I wanted a career that would pay me well. I always thought I would be some sort of doctor or forensics expert because I loved to help people and watch the ID Channel, lol. As a child, I was in the hospital for about a week and the doctors were so nice to me and because I was not really sick they allowed me to help out with other children on my floor. I took them snacks and gifts and after that I was hooked – I just knew I would be a doctor! As I got a little older (teenage years), and less wise, I decided that becoming a doctor would take too long and I wanted a degree that was fast and “easy.” Fast and easy for me was Business and Finance.
I actually started my career in Finance when I was 19 and worked my way through college at one of the top investment and wealth management firms in the world. Lucky for me came the recession of 2008 while I was just getting started with my career. When I graduated college I wanted to move up but could not find any jobs in the financial industry that would hire me because I either had too much or not enough professional experience. After spending over $500 to prepare my taxes at a large tax franchise I decided “why am I paying $500 to prepare my taxes when I’m paying so much money for my degree to learn this stuff.” In 2008 the seed was planted for what is now Opulence Financial Group. I helped my aunt launch her tax business in our home town that next year and opened my business the following.
Ten years later, I have helped hundreds of businesses and families save money in taxes (almost 7 figures in this year alone), I’ve trained over 20 people through my TaxPro Franchise program to launch their own successful tax business, educated thousands via online platforms on personal finance, and I still help families protect their assets to this day!
Has it been a smooth road?
The person I am today came from the struggles of my past. It has not been smooth sailing, as you can imagine being the eldest of 8 siblings comes with a lot of responsibility. Sometimes that meant delaying my goals for the progress of the unit. But, my heart was big and my nose wide for my family so we pushed through lots of life events and financial crisis that comes along with being raised by a single mother.
During college, I struggled mostly within myself. I was doing way too much for too many people and it was draining me spiritually, killing my grades, and taking a toll my bank account. I ended up broke and in lots of debt. I regained my confidence (and savings) by working out, praying, and becoming a plus size model. At that time is when I started my tax business as well so BOOKED & BUSY is an understatement. All of that work and focus helped me pull myself out of the funk of life and push through. Today, as a mom, wife, and businesswoman, I’m grateful for everything I’ve been through.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the energy in Atlanta, so much Black Excellence. I feel like coming from the north we are raised to dim our light and conform in a white society and here there’s so much pride in being black.
I hate the traffic!
