Meet Shannon Watkins of The Shannon Sells Team

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Watkins.

Shannon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
During the process of selling my first home, the agent I was working with told me that real estate seemed like it would be a great career fit for my personality. I took her suggestion to heart and decided to give it a try. Very quickly, I realized that the sales aspect of real estate came naturally to me and that I had a real passion for helping my clients. After sixteen years in the business, I have worked with clients to find every type of property imaginable, both residential and commercial. In addition to working with buyers and sellers, I have also flipped houses and owned and managed rental properties.

In the beginning, I decided that my business would be people-focused. This mentality has served me well. With 63% of my business coming from referrals and repeat clientele, I decided to create a team to more effectively and efficiently work with clients. Since 2012, the Shannon Sells Team has grown to a team of 14, which includes 10 REALTORS®, Listing and Closing Coordinators and a Marketing Director. Together, we focus on one goal: to serve each and every client well. By offering ethical, trustworthy and comprehensive service and by staying attentive to the needs of our clients, we make sure every transaction closes with a memorable and positive experience. Several of my clients enjoyed working with us so much that they joined our team! Our clients become like family, and this has led to much of our success to date.

Has it been a smooth road?
Anytime a small business like mine grows at such a rapid pace, there are always growing pains. I have learned and adapted through good and bad experiences, which can be difficult and painful at times. The “real estate team” is a fairly new concept, so these are uncharted waters and there aren’t many out there to look to for guidance or advice. My hope is that the Shannon Sells Team sets the best possible example for other Realtors looking to start their own teams.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the The Shannon Sells Team story. Tell us more about the business.
The Shannon Sells Team works with buyers and sellers in the south metro Atlanta area.

We are known for treating our clients like family and for providing a full-service experience during their real estate transaction. We work as a team with each and every client. This means that if the agent they are working with is unable to show them a property, one of our other team members will step in to assist. Our support staff works seamlessly with the agents to efficiently list, market and close on properties. Our goal is to make the buying or selling process as easy and enjoyable as possible for our clients, and we do this very well.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe that teams like the Shannon Sells Team are going to become more and more popular in the real estate industry. I also believe REALTORS® as a whole will need to learn to change with the times. What worked 10 years ago, will not be effective with today’s buyers and sellers. Today’s trends will not work for our clients 10 years from now. For example, millennials are flooding the real estate market. This generation is well-informed and has done their research. If you want to work as an agent for a millennial, you must understand and meet their high expectations. Our team looks at change as a good thing and is always looking to be out in front of industry trends.
