Meet Shardaye Cook of Savvy Notary Services in Dekalb County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shardaye Cook.

Shardaye, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was a little girl, I remember riding with my mom to find a notary public locally and we stopped at three stores, finally the third store had a notary public on duty but it was a given that we needed more notary publics in the community. Well, as of April 2019, I was sworn in at the Superior courthouse of Dekalb County, GA, as a notary public. In May of 2019, I created my business, Savvy Notary Services LLC. Savvy notary started as a part-time mobile service that specializes in general notarial acts for Dekalb, Atlanta and surrounding counties.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Entrepreneurship brings everyday challenges when you are building a business. Although it has been a smooth road, I take all challenges as an opportunity to perfect my craft. Marketing (footwork and social media) has increased my client interactions since I first started my business. I’ve never been shy to make everyone aware that I’m a Notary Public because I know every household will need a notary, eventually. I started as a notary public and I am currently enrolled to receive a loan signing certificate to add more available services for the community.

Please tell us about Savvy Notary Services.
I am a full-time employee in the corporate world, however I wanted to invest in a business with my given name that my family and community would be proud of. I am also a mother of two boys and I want to show them first hand that they have options over their future, to never set limitations on yourself but instead create your own opportunities. Savvy notary specializes in Legal, Financial and Business documents and my sole duty is to certify people’s identities on documents and authenticate their copies of original documents to prevent fraud. What I love most about my business is networking and providing resources to the community. I am currently offering student-athletes and school administration within Dekalb County free notary services as a token of appreciation for my community.

Do you feel like our city is a good place for businesses like yours? If someone was just starting out, would you recommend them starting out here? If not, what can our city do to improve?
Living in Georgia all my life, I was able to experience the rise of Atlanta for small businesses. This city has become an asset for entrepreneurship, creativity and business innovations in which most need notarizations. Seeing this gave me hope that I could be successful in creating employment for myself as well as a notary public! Invest in yourself because Atlanta is definitely the place to network and grow! It all starts with a plan!!
