Meet Sharon Henderson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Henderson.

Sharon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I WON and defeated a five-term encumbent I am the only one that ran against her and won the third time. The first time I ran against her the numbers were increasing because I made her work harder… Second time I ran against her, the numbers increased even more because my name recognition and popularity increased and made a difference. Running against a well-known encumbent was not easy.

However, I knew I was not giving up and one day I would get to the finish line. I did not stop until I WON. Persistence pays off and having my husband, Jerome Henderson, as the best campaign manager, ever. Third time is a charm in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. I had the most votes out of more than 11,000 votes cast. My opponent requested a recount in both Newton and Rockdale Counties in this District 113, however both of her requests was denied by the Election Board for both counties for a recount.

I fought a good fight, finished the race and kept the faith. We have made history today! I am honored that you’ll choose me to be your voice in the community. I’m excited about the opportunity to serve as your State Representative for District 113! Thank you everyone for your VOTE! Now, I am excited and we can move forward and stand together. First and foremost, I thank God and all of my supporters and organizers. Last, but not least, my husband who graciously supported me throughout this campaign and he is indeed the best campaign manager ever! My vision is to unify the community in order to show solidarity and protect traditional family values. I am dedicated to the education and advancement of our community.

“I was born in Goose Creek, South Carolina to the proud parents of seven children. I have been married for 24 years and blessed with four children and three grandchildren. I learned early on from humble beginnings the value of hard work, team-work and perseverance. I entered the ministry in the year of our Lord 1989 as one of the youngest female pastors in the state of SC. During my 28 years of dedication as pastor, coming up through the ranks, it has afforded me honor to the office of Bishop in 2005. With academic and administrative leadership abilities have given me the privilege to organize community charity-based assistance programs for seniors, special needs children and those in need. Simultaneously, I worked in the banking and finance institution for 31 years since 1979. This included Management, Budgetary Counseling, Investments for large corporations and Mortgage Servicing. I was awarded the Sustained Superior Performance Award and the Award of Excellence in Banking. Later in my life, finishing my pursuit of higher education, I graduated from Charleston Southern University in 2015, with a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management. It is my sole desire to serve as your voice in the State House. A voice that echoes your concerns, a voice that matters, a voice that genuinely cares.”

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My signature is having a “Vision for the People.” Once you can see that vision and know where you’re headed, nothing stands in your way of making that vision a reality. I am known for being a pastor of 31 years in good standing, integrity and professionalism. Opposition only fuels me to get the job done. I have helped so many people with need-based programs and assistance. I love people and desire to help everyone and be their voice in the statehouse. I have been told by others, “Mrs. Henderson, we admire your persistence campaigning, if you are just as persistent in the State House you will represent us well.”

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel that Georgia and my District 113, will be exemplified through my service to the community and abroad.
