Today we’d like to introduce you to Shatara Hawkins.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Shatara. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Ever since I was a little girl and my mom took me to her job, which was a nursing home. I was able to interact and help pass out ice cream to the residents. Ever since then, I knew my passion. I fell in love instantly with seeing others smile by helping out and giving back. Growing up, learning about Malcolm X and how he helped the community. I use to say I want my husband to be just like him. Then, I was like nope, I want to be like him. I want to help others. I want to give back to my community. So, that’s when I came up with “ Women R.”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Struggles, obstacles, and challenges are going to come when you’re destined for greatness.
Please tell us about Women R Inc.
Women R Inc is a non-profit organization designed to help, empower, motivate and give back to women and children. I think my organization is different because my main focus is women and children living in shelters. I was once of them children and it would’ve been nice to know that sometimes, a negative situation can turn out to be an even greater situation.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would do nothing different at all. Everything I’ve been through was designed to make me who I am today.
