Meet Shay Mack

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shay Mack.

Shay, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After I graduated from Spelman College with my degree in Theatre, I was like hmm what’s next, grad school or try to work? So, I started off acting and directing community theatre here in Atlanta. Later, found my niche as a director and acting coach for years. As the film and television scene began to grow here in Atlanta, myself and lots of my peers made the shift from stage to film. In 2015, I signed with my first agent and quickly began booking and acting on television. At one time, auditioning for roles called for the actor to go “in the room”. Basically, we (actors) had scheduled appointments where we’d have to go to the casting director’s office and audition there; this still happens. However, most of the auditions are now being put on tape, uploaded and sent in. So, I decided to start a business for myself, I was already coaching actors, why not film their auditions for them as well? I started Audition With Shay Mack, and today have taped and coached hundreds of actors from Atlanta, and worldwide.

Has it been a smooth road?
Believe it or not, everything has been smooth sailing. I have no complaints. I think the biggest struggle was deciding to make my business open 24 hours. It was an awesome thought, but I think it would have been a better idea to factor in sleep, lol. Over the years though, I’ve found a happy and healthy medium where everything works out in my and my client’s favor.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Audition With Shay Mack – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Audition With Shay Mack is a 24-hour self-taping service. I also provide private coaching as well as monthly, class style workshops. Most of my clients say that they shoot their audition with me because I am great at making them feel comfortable in an environment where there are a lot of nerves, uncertainty and I have a lot of patience. I think I am very understanding to that because I am an actor myself. I know how it feels to just want to do a good job, and get booked and simply grow as an actor. I have been told that my services are different from others because I really go deep with my coaching and I take my time. I don’t believe in rushing actors, I want everyone to win! I am very proud to say that I going on my fourth year, and I love when my clients contact me and tell me that they have booked the role, business is great!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love about Atlanta is that it’s definitely thriving; everyone’s out here hustling on their entrepreneurial tip. It’s great to see new business pop up all over the city. As far as my industry goes, Atlanta is booming with films and television shows being shot here every day, all day. Atlanta is absolutely a great place to get started in the entertainment field. Now what I like least, is that clearly everyone knows about being able to “come up” in this city and they are moving here. So, the traffic….. Geez… Destinations that were 23-30 mins are like 45-1hr. Y’all come here, do ya thang and go back home lolol…
