Today we’d like to introduce you to Shean Strong.
Shean, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am the owner of SHEAN STRONG — an event styling and floral design company based in Atlanta, Georgia. We curate beautiful and timeless weddings + events.
Like many floral designers in the wedding industry — I fell into… and fell in love with floral design. I’ve always been a pretty creative person, and after a friend asked me to help her with her wedding I was hooked. I ended up booking two clients AT her wedding and knew I wanted to do this full time. The rest you can say is history… Since I’ve started to work with flowers I have also begun to teach floral design courses all over. It’s a way for me to get my community involved in designing- and who doesn’t want to play with gorgeous flowers- learn a skill- and have something to take home that you made with your own hands.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I mean… I wish I could say it has been smooth sailing- but like any startup it’s hard. It helps when there is a passion for the thing that you do- that makes it a bit easier. To be honest- the hardest thing is getting your work out in an already oversaturated market. I’ve had to stay true to my aesthetic, true to my giftings, and believe in myself. I know what I’m capable of doing and with each wedding or each event things get easier and easier. I think that’s the main reason why we have expanded to full event design and coordination for our clients. It’s easier for everyone- I like my fingerprints on every design element between myself and my team we have a full-service wedding coordinator/ planner, event designer, and florist. Keep it under one roof.
Please tell us about Shean Strong Design.
The heart of my business is… my love for love. I’m the epitome of a hopeless romantic and genuinely love designing and curating a day that is as unique as the couple I’m working with. I’m humbled each time a contract is signed — my clients are trusting me with one of the most important days in their life. I don’t take that lightly. I design weddings because I want the most memorable day for a couple to be curated specifically for them. We are set apart because at SHEAN STRONG because we are experts at picking up the subtle nuances that make you… you. I’m proud to say 99.9% of the time our design boards are spot on to what our clients are envisioning- Things they can’t express- we bring to life. I like to create a story and a feeling in lieu of theme- To me that lends itself to an effortless refinement. I am intentional in my designs and keep cohesin at the forefront of everything-We build relationships with our clients that far beyond flowers. I genuinely invested in my clients and I know they know that.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Everything that I have done has led me to where I am right now. Every mistake has taught me something, so I think I could be in a completely different spot had I not had an opportunity to make those mistakes. I’m happy where I am- However, in a sea of creative people it’s easy to begin to compare yourself to others… I would tell new business owner Shean to get work- don’t worry about what are people are doing- do you, and create beautiful arrangements.
