Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheena Williams.
Hi Sheena, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have one son and three daughters. My business is named after my daughters but I teach them all how to make candles slowly. I started during the pandemic but I didn’t start because I wanted something to do. I started a business because I wanted something that I could leave for my kids. Something that I could teach them. I decided on candles because I love candles but could never really get affordable ones that you could smell the whole time it’s burning. So I did my research for months and I finally got my push and I just ordered my kit and I’ve just been perfecting my craft ever since. I’ve had both good and bad reviews (way more good than bad, lol) but each one helped me improve my formula.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth road? Not even close. But it’s a ride I have enjoyed thus far. Some of my struggles was financial mainly. Funding your own business is NOT easy at all. Especially working a 9-5 and being a mom of four children all under the age of eight. But I didn’t let it stop me. I just buy here and there, slowly in bulk and it all pays back in the end. Another struggle was time. A business takes time. Perfecting your craft takes time. You have to really manage your time wisely to get the job done the right way. Otherwise, you’re just taking losses and that’s not the goal.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Caleidi Rae’s?
I am a candle maker and I am a small candle business. I personally make every candle, wax melt, and body butter by hand. We use 100% soy wax for a nice clean, slow-burning candle. Our candles are guaranteed to give you a smile with every whiff. They are created to relax the mind, lighten your mood, and set a calming atmosphere to the room. We have a variety of scents from masculine, feminine, clean, fruity and floral. And we have also have multiple sizes.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’m still in search of a mentor but I have friends that have businesses and I get advice from them. And their feedback is everything to me because it has helped me grow so much and I’ve learned so much. When it comes to networking, you have to get out there and promote yourself! You can’t rely on family or friends to do it for you because they’re not. Just being honest. Some may do it here and there but in actuality, YOU have to put in the work. I’ve run promotions on IG ads, figured out my target audience and improved my content, post daily, and I do pop-up shops monthly.
