Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelly Brown.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Shelly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up in the 90’s and 2000’s Era in Atlanta and being exposed to a strong sense of black culture is what truly influenced my spark for the industry of entertainment. The Westside of Atlanta taught me how to survive the many struggles inside and outside of my typical “struggle love“ household and community. Good or bad, I kept a pair of earphones in my ear. I could identify with the words of Goodie Mobb’s Soul Food, OutKast’s Git Up, Git Out, Xscape’s Just Kickin it, and TLC’s No Scrubs which were all what I consider my starter pack and Atlanta’s soundtrack. If Atlanta needed a definition in my opinion the lyrics of all of those songs would be next to it. I often placed myself in a position around individuals in the industry by attending open mics working free red carpet gigs attending socials and workshops to sharpen my interpersonal skills and to narrow down exactly what I wanted to do in the industry.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We all experience this thing called life and in it we experience a balance of pleasure and pain. In which both teaches us humility, life’s lessons, and humbles us up to be thankful for the gift of being able to continue to follow our dreams. I truly believe that all you need is one yes and I can promise if you truly believe in yourself you won’t be denied but you must keep going! I can detail one struggle and that struggle is making sure that especially during times like this (Covid 19 pandemic), that you always have a plan B or C as far as income is concerned always make sure you have a stream of income that is recession-proof. My business relays on ticket sales. So if I didn’t have a plan B, that’s another conversation. Lol.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
She’ll I Blog is an umbrella for the many things that I do. I specialize in People! I am a red carpet host for Premier Atlanta Events. I work with and partner with a few kick butt black female gurus in the Atlanta entrepreneur world. I am the operations manager for The Konvolive. I am the Editor in Chief for Besties Magazine, I am the vendor Coordinator for Wolf Creek Amphitheater and I provide casting assistance for a local production partnership. I wear many hats and love each and every moment of it. I’m known as the connector. That’s what my friends call me. If you ask me for something if I can’t do it, I know somebody who does. I’m most proud of the fact that the relationships that I have built in this industry are solid and we help each other grow instead of tearing each other apart. I think what sets me apart from others is that I am merely my own unique self. I respect the grind of my people and feel as though truly there is enough for us all!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start all over and this is my first time admitting this. I would have finished college at an HBCU. I am still in pursuit of my degree and I am proud of that. But baby… that HBCU experience is a whole mood. When I graduated high school, I used to visit we’ll sneak on campus and hang in the dorm room and write music with my friends that did go to college. It was so fun and intellectually superb, the culture was so black… my God! I would have been the student who ran the campus media program. I would have also been a Delta.
