Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherie Phillips.
Sherie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved to Atlanta on faith and a prayer in May of 2017 from St. Louis, Missouri. I didn’t know what I would be doing, but I don’t think I expected this. I came down to Atlanta working for the government as I had been since 2011. I had always had my hands in events and nightlife and different entrepreneurial endeavors. From creating the MO Greeks 2 AGP Bus Trip to hosting events for international conventions, I’ve had my fair share. But the move was different. I started out going to events, meeting the owners of nightlife, and just networking. I was trying to see where or even if I could fit into the grand scale of things. I was blessed to always be invited or on the list to high profiled events.
By January 15, 2018, I quit my government job to become a full-time entrepreneur. Literally, the scariest thing I’ve ever done in my life. Especially with my core “support system” not supporting me… or at least not the way I felt they should. It wasn’t adding up to me that I’m always in the room with the bosses, but I wasn’t anyone special. And knew that wasn’t the case because I could feel it. I literally kept my faith. I began taking online webinars and classes and learning ways to create multiple streams of income to make sure the funds kept coming. One night, I get a call from my cousin telling me hurry up and come to a business meeting.
Little did I know, that meeting would turn into my first grand opening for a hookah lounge. Mind blown, now I’m feeling like a BOSS boss! This opened the door for me to work more with other venues, club owners, and nightlife influencers. I then created a traveling event staff for additional events. I was then inducted into the National African American Restaurant and Night Club Association and began sitting in some pretty powerful rooms. The one thing I learned is that nothing is promised and nothing lasts forever. With that, I evolved into branding myself and selling the services and knowledge that I have obtained over time.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This road has been everything but smooth! From difficult business partners, losing romantic relationships due to lack of availability, losing personal relationships due to lack of understanding, inconsistent finances… I have lost so much! But I don’t complain because I have also gained a lot! Knowledge, experience, accomplished goals and created a lane for myself. I had to understand that what’s for me is inevitably for me. And everybody won’t see what you see or understand what you understand but when it’s all you have, you gotta hustle! So through the overdraft fees and late payments, I always just stayed positive and focused with the end goal in mind. Besides, a smooth sea has never made a skilled sailor! There’s not too much, if anything, that I feel like I can’t do now!
iAmSherieP – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as having accomplished a goal that made you better and put you in a better position in life. So for me, when I can do what I said I was going to do, and it has elevated me to a new level in that category, it was a success. It could be minor like perfecting a recipe or a money move like perfecting a skill set. Now I can offer the said item to more people and get a more diverse response! That’s success for me. Doing. Mastering, Giving, Getting better.
