Meet Sherri Lyle of Designs by Sherri in Riverdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherri Lyle.

Sherri, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all began with a cough I couldn’t control. I worked in customer service for 20 years I went to work going about my day I kept coughing for two weeks I decided to go to the doctor. They ran a series of tests the results came back CANCER nonhogkins lymphoma I was devastated life as I knew it would never be the same I went through six months of chemotherapy I knew that I would have to find a way to not let this diagnosis keep me in bondage. I always loved to decorate I had a co-worker ask me to do her wedding and from that point and 14 years later here I am designing weddings and parties every wedding I do gives me a unique experience God has allowed me to use the creativity that he gave me giving him the glory every step of the way. I’m grateful for every experience the good and the bad it has shaped me into the person I am today. I am excited about what the future holds for me.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been easy there have been many ups and downs I had to put on my brave faces all the while fighting for my life while helping brides plan their weddings but I wouldn’t trade those experiences. I have financial struggles trying to get started with my business but I kept pressing on.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a wedding designer /decorator I specialize in floral design. What sets me apart is my unique creative ability most of my designs are custom handcrafted.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in a very small town in Kentucky 3 child of 4 with a single mom. We didn’t have much my mom was a special needs educator. We had lot of love and fun my personality has always been over the top and life of the party. I love fashion even though I was bit of a tomboy. I sang in the choir at my church yes I love to sing. I had a great childhood even though we didn’t have a lot the foundation that was given to us shaped who we are.
