Meet Sherri McDonald of Lashology Studios in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherri McDonald.

Sherri, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My love for the beauty industry began at age 8 when I styled my cousin’s hair for the first time. That day, I fell in love with the beauty industry and realized how much I could drastically improve the mood of a person. It later became clear that my calling is to help women enhance their natural beauty. I attended Spelman College and graduated in 2001. After college, I worked in corporate America as a project manager for over ten years. I came to the realization that it was time for me to take that leap of faith and pursue my real passion.

My beauty career began at the Aveda Institute in Atlanta, GA 2013 and I got my start as a makeup artist with Mac Cosmetics. I then became a certified lash extension stylist, and my love for lash extensions has grown into not only the main service I provide, but it has also extended into training and education. After working at various high-end hair salons and lash studios in Atlanta, I decided to take all of the experience I gained and open up my own lash studio. I finally lived up to what I wanted to be when I grew up!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anything worth having is going to come with challenges. At first, the transition from corporate America to being an entrepreneur was difficult, however, my business experience and management skills helped me tremendously. When I decided to leave the salon and open up my own lash studio, that also came with some obstacles. I instantly became the CEO, receptionist, marketing representative and lash stylist all at once. These were all good challenges to have and I always say, if the dream doesn’t scare you, it’s not big enough.

Lashology Studios – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The services I provide at Lashology consist of classic and volume lash extension applications. After clients come in for their initial full set, they come back every two to three weeks for touch ups. I specialize in natural and dramatic looking lash extensions. For clients who want a more natural every day look, I am able to customize a look for them based on their lifestyle. For those clients who want a more dramatic look, I am able to create the perfect look for their lifestyle needs as well.

The biggest compliment I hear from my clients, or other people interested in my services, is how natural their lashes look, whether they have chosen a more natural look or a dramatic look. This makes me feel awesome as a lash stylist because my main goal is to maintain the health and integrity of my client’s natural lashes. None of my clients have had damage to their natural lashes after coming to me for services. I have turned away people who’s natural lashes cannot support extensions and worked with them on a regimen to get their lashes healthy and strong before I perform any service on them. I take this part of my career serious and want to always provide the best quality service possible to my clients.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
When I started Lashology and set up my online booking system, it allows clients to review my services after their appointment. When I started to see all the wonderful reviews I received from my clients that made me feel AMAZING! Also when other lash stylists reach out to me about training them, that makes me feel warm and fuzzy as well.
